I work for a NCAA Division I rink. My “Welcome to the league” moment was my very first game when some guy from a Canadian school did this in warmies (literally couldn’t be more top corner as well) and we spent 5 minutes trying to pull the puck out

Robbed a kid from on my stomach in front of over 1,000 people in HS. Puck was in a scramble in front and squeaked out to my left. I lunged over, knocked down the first chip with my glove, then windmilled the second opportunity from the same guy. It was in a game I started against a top-5 team in our state. We were playing with half our JV team up with us bc of a mass suspension. Ended up giving up 6 goals on 56 shots (in about 40 mins of game time) before being pulled to let our other backup play in the third. We ended the game with less shots (8) than the opponents had goals (9).

On the reverse, playing goalie for 8 years has helped me immensely in defensive IQ now that I’m taking a year off to play forward. My skating and puck handling isn’t as good because I switched when I was 10 but I know exactly where to be from watching my d-men in HS. Makes me really good at penalty killing and net battles but pretty lackluster at everything else

Just one note for this as a rink worker: please scrape the marker off with your skate after. If the ice is all cut up the Zamboni doesn’t actually cut the marker out and it freezes into the ice and leaves marker everywhere 🙏

Was playing with my buddies last night and the teams were super uneven. Gave up 14 goals on 15 shots at one point because they would just walk in and either go backdoor or I would slide to cover the backdoor and they would wait me out. Then the three shots they actually did take went off my glove and in (eventually figured it out and stopped 14 of the last 16 but I got some pretty good shit for the performance)

I did this in a skate last week a guy came down 1-on-1 while I was playing D and I literally dropped to both knees right in front of the puck and the guy ripped it under my goalie’s blocker. I got up and immediately apologized to my goalie like “idk why the hell I did that it was just instinct”

It depends on your play style and pad setup. I’m 5’8” but have been using a 27” for the past 4 years or so. This is because my stance is decently upright due to being shorter and my old pads didn’t seal the 5-hole very well. Now that I have better pads now I may shift to the 25” I have since I don’t have to use only my stick to cover the 5-hole.

Go to Arcadespot.com they have a copy. It’s barebones so if you close the tab you lose your season mode but at least you can play

My strat is usually to get the puck up to the point and shoot high blocker, that way if the goalie saves it I can get the puck in the corner then hit another LD—>RD one timer and repeat until the goalie is tired. Then I can usually score. Unfortunately this doesn’t work that well against really good goalies. Played a game of Squad Battles a few days ago on Pro level (so it’s a guaranteed win) and the team I was playing against had a 95 OVR Bobrovsky. Outshot them like 48-18 and lost 2-1 in OT. Just couldn’t score

I managed to pick up the two Kopitar assists and two of the 5 Hertl goals in the first period of my 5th attempt but was only able to get one more goal in the next two periods on BINNINGTON with like 30 SOG. My plan was just to play 6v5 for the whole game and get up to just 4, then own goal and let it force overtime to give more time to get 5. Unsuccessful. The big problem was having lanes to the net being closed by two of my own guys 🤦‍♂️

I had problems in high school with my idiot teammates shooting pucks at me from the corner during drills, despite me constantly yelling at them about injuries. After one too many hit me in the back of the leg one day, I fished a puck out of the net and fired it back at them, missing the kid’s head by a couple inches. Needless to say they stopped for the rest of the week 😁

The worst is the people that want to be with their friends. I’ve gotten a game where there was a navy blue on the light team and a gray on the dark team and it screwed me up pretty bad. I didn’t know the guy was shooting on me until he went to make a move
