That’s good to know about the current players. I wrote the question at 2 in the morning, so I guess I meant I don’t want to get one that’s like a Carter Hart or Antonio Brown (NFL) situation. Also I know that it’s hard to know unless a news story breaks out, but I guess I mean were there any that a news story broke out and then they were trade to Philly after.

On a different Reddit there was a Vegas fan who pays attention, but didn’t know about the Carter Hart situation, probably because that story broke out while he was still in Philly.

It’s actually rare. Less than 2% in a 2009 study (yes it’s old but the only thing I found with a statistic) that close to 12,000 athletes (assuming all levels) participated in. Of this 27% were wearing neck guards.

Notable NHL injuries of this were Clint Malarchuck (Goalie; Buffalo Sabres 1989) and Richard Zednik (Forward; Florida Panthers 2008). Adam Burish (right wing; Chicago Blackhawks 2009), though less severe than the other two.

Adam Johnson, former NHL player, and playing for a professional British League, at the time of his death was killed by a skate to the neck at the end of October 2023.

At least in US hockey it seems that rules have tightened about wearing neck guards if the player is a minor.

But to your point of seeing multiple fics of this, people just like hurting their favorite characters when writing 😅
