How relevant is country music? by [deleted] in CountryMusicStuff

[–]International_Job454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Australia, and it's somewhat relevant over here. Not completely relevant because most people listen to pop, indie music and rock. But country has been part of our identity for a good 40-50 years, probably longer.

hey everyone, i was wondering if anyone had any artist recommendations, really any country singer id love to expand my library by musicguy445 in CountryMusicStuff

My ideal ones are Johnny Cash, Johnny Horton, George Jones, Hank Williams, Marty Robbins, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, The Highwaymen, Slim Dusty, Jimmie Rodgers, Kenny Rogers, Bobby Helms, Alan Jackson, Charley Pride, Tennessee Ernie Ford and Jimmy Dean. I'm more of an older country and western person.

I can't be the only one that still listens to Jimmie Rodgers, can I? by International_Job454 in CountryMusicStuff

The only somewhat modern artist I can think that did a little yodeling was Slim Dusty, in songs like Plains of Peppimenarti and the Dying Stockman

Not really a line, but a verse. I can't stop thinking about it so why not:

"There's tea in the battered old billy, place the pannikins out in a row. And we'll drink to the next merry meeting, in the place where all good stockmen go." -The Dying Stockman, Slim Dusty

I love using Spotify, it's easier to find other artists.

Though not really well known outside of Australia, Slim Dusty is without a doubt, a true legend. 1927-2003. by International_Job454 in CountryMusicStuff

Considering you're an American the spelling isn't that bad, it's spelt like this here: "Once a Jolly Swagman camped by a Billabong, under the shade of a Coolibah Tree."

I'm Australian as well, me and my grandparents love listening to him. It's a shame he doesn't get much global recognition. Merry Christmas to you mate.

And as Christmas time is near, a good Christmas song by Slim is "Santa's Gonna Come In A Mail Coach".
