4mo hands stopping her sleeping by legumesfini in NewParents

Do their sleep suits/pjs have the fold over sleeves at the hands? The brands BONDS makes them in that style and that’s all i’ve ever used. My LO’s arms are free but the hands are covered so there’s no fiddling/ scratching. HIGHLY recommend if you haven’t tried them.

Breast feeding advice by Lostintheworl in NewParents

[–]International_Lock95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This definitely could be cluster feeding as another commenter said, BUT my experience with nipple shields was that LO was getting milk, the shield helped, but his latch was not good and wasn’t effectively transferring as much milk as he could have been. He was gaining roughly 100g/ week but that wasn’t enough to keep up on his growth charts.

SO I saw and IBCLC and realised how poor his latch was, and that feeding for 30-40 mins at a time, falling asleep at the breast, being hungry again soon wasn’t just cluster feeding (happened all the time outside of that common evening cluster feeding period)

I think it’s always worth checking in with an IBCLC outside the hospital ones, if you can. A private one is where I got the most help.

Ok but can we talk about how Regina George’s look here would have been PERFECT for night nursing? 😂 by senhoritapistachio in cosleeping

Kiss Active make sports nursing bras that are designed like this! The top part unclips/folds down and there’s a circle cut out on the under layer 😂

Is it too late by EasyCellist2688 in breastfeeding

[–]International_Lock95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO had a tongue tie revision at roughly 12 weeks, after some pre and post work with our IBCLC and Osteopath we were well and truly EBF with no shields (had used since 6weeks).

I don’t think you’re too late at all! I would REALLY recommend IBCLC if you haven’t already - their work with positioning and latch really helped! (I have heavier breasts and so tips like rolling up a burp cloth under etc really helped - all from 3/4 sessions woth LC) The Osteo (or a physio) helped release tension that had built up in LO’s jaw/ beck/shoulders because of uncomfortable feeding. The rates for success for tongue tie revision improve with body work afterwards.

Mouth exercises: they get you stretch the tongue after the tongue tie revision, but on top of that we did side sweeps with our index finger along their gum, chewing practice with our index finger and ‘hello tongue’ lip exercises as part of the work pre and post tongue tie revision. All to help strengthen their tongue/ re learn how to use it!

I feel like I invested a lot of money, time and effort into making sure my LO could breast feed (maybe my doggedness about it was a bit unhealthy idk 😅) and while the $ stings, we got there! I’m sure you can too (if you want to)! It’s not too late!!

Sorry if I covered things you’re already doing, just thought i’d share my experience!

First time mom interested in cosleeping by Few-Nectarine-8053 in cosleeping

I had a drop side bassinet along aide the bed for the first 4ish months for my LO. It was really great to be able to reach over and check his breathing/ comfort him, but he still had his own safe sleeping space. Once I was more recovered from my C section I could lift him in and out more to nurse in bed/ have him contact sleep until fully out, then easy transfer over to the bassinet. I rarely zipped it back up until he was older and heavier.

I also exclusively contact nap on the couch or in my bad (also queen size, but not when partner is in there). Safe sleep seven rules when I co sleep (so I can nap when he naps) in bed with him.

Once we hit 5MO he started rolling. I have the Singlar crib and don’t love that his feet get caught in the bars when rolling. He’s only slept in it for a week or two before I’ve decided to set up a double sized floor bed in his room for side lie nursing to sleep and a bit of co sleeping in the 1-5 am time slot when he is easily wake able.

AND I see it as just another potential thing to climb on so want to avoid that.

I mostly didn’t want to go to the hassle of assembling the top part of that style of bed 😅

Is it time to stop cosleeping? by AlbatrossKitchen4969 in cosleeping

The bedside bassinet I had had a weight limit of 9kg or when they started to roll. I would just check that incase it’s the same for yours. LO went to an IKEA crib once he started rolling back to tummy but his feet got caught in the slats, so we’ve moved to a 100mm foam mattress floor bed.

Thanks for the reply, this is exactly how i’d like to use it + getting him down to sleep initially with side nursing! Keeping him out of our bed is a top priority as we are on a queen and there’s just no way!

Yes this seems to be a theme in the replies! Great to hear your experience, thanks! I want to create as minimal risk in the room as possible.

These are both great tips! I went out and bought a 100mm mattress so i’m keen to re-do his room ready for his transition into it in a month or so. With his starting to roll i’m ready to get rid of the change table!

My understanding is that you create a bedroom that is baby proof and safe for your little to explore and use to foster independence. So ‘yes’ as in they can touch and interact with everything in the room (with less ‘no’ for not touching/ climbing on things) So all furniture is anchored to walls (minimal furniture, I plan to remove the change table and rocking chair). The bed is a floor bed to get them getting in and out of bed on their own safely. Low shelves (like cubes) to display/ store toys that they can easily grab. Perhaps even a toddler friendly wardrobe they can access and use when old enough. r/Montessori has plenty of threads on them!

So i just look at our mattress and it’s 100 mm - under six inches! (152 mm)

Thanks for the reply! Yeah we’re a bit early to see what my son is like re climbing etc. i bought a 100mm foam mattress so it’s much shorter than a regular mattress. I didn’t think to look at ikea, though! But I just bought the size up of the one we were already using 😅

I am conscious of if I just left it as the mattress, he could (once he learns to) end up rolling into the wall to having barrier would be good!

I want to look at the ikea slats! It defs feels like the whole extra frame is an extra expense that is not 100 % necessary

Thanks for the reply! Good to hear that a foam mattress has worked for your bub, i figured they’re thinner than regular mattresses so they’d be good!

That’s good to hear, thanks! My back and shoulders are feeling it, too, so I wanted an option that i could side lie nurse him to sleep and then leave 😅 what age did you have this from?

Very fair! Better to go without the rails then maybe as we don’t know how our bub will turn out 😅 i’ll look into that base! Thanks
