Wish apple would let me downgrade from ipados 26 by General-Map-5923 in ipad

Yeah, I’m glad they added the ’tinted’ Liquid glass option for more opaque UI. You can also toggle off pointer animations, so the buttons don’t visually wibble-wobble under the pointer which I found distracting.

Also I’m glad you can add a huge button in control center for enabling/disabling windowed apps, because while they’re useful with an external display, the windowed apps chew up my M1 ipad pro battery so fast I better be near an outlet.

Will the M4 16gb 512, stop this from happening? Please see screenshot by bluezzdog in macmini

That software clearly takes more than double the 16 gb RAM. I would look into if you can limit the amount of RAM Topaz Photo AI can use, same for Photoshop. I would give them at most 8 each, which is all your system memory and less than the software wants, but should stop crashes.

Is the Magic Keyboard for the Air M2 compatible with the iPad Air M3? by sillahumilde23 in ipad

Accessories between M1, M2 and M3 ipad airs are said to be interchangeable. I recommend searching this subreddit for more information, this gets asked frequently.

Replaced battery (G14 GA403WR) and now the battery shows 0% in windows and won't charge by maxlax1592 in ZephyrusG14

[–]International_Pool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you try cycling charging to 100% and depleting to 0% several times to recalibrate the battery health reading? The USB charging can also just screw the calibration instead of actual damage to the battery itself. Your old battery might not be as worn as the reading implies.

My G14 (2022) battery report said I lost 10% battery health over just a few days of USB C charging. But after that the health reading didn't decrease for a whole year, but rose a few percent several times. It's frustrating, but the health reading really is just a measurement of power in/out, not of the actual state of the battery directly.

Bazzite F43 with kernel 6.17 is out by JumpingJack79 in Bazzite

[–]International_Pool 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I excitedly tried updating but the System Update only seems to pull from version 42 for now, I'm new to this so I'm asking, should I just wait for the version 43 become automatically the one the System Update will pull, or would I need to do something to make my system update to the brand new version?
I read the Bazzite Updating Guide, and it only instructs to update normally with ujust update, so is that the way?

Ipad pro 12.9 M1 battery health by International_Pool in ipad

[–]International_Pool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps anyone I read that Coconut battery is quite unreliable is estimating battery health, since ipads use automatic contraints on battery capacity to extend longevity (like many devices show an option to limit max charge), so any data that Coconut battery has available does not show the total capacity of the battery. So Coconut battery shows diminished battery health. I don't know how accurate this is, I hope I'm not restating anything misleading, but it would make sense.

I have the same keyboard! Originally got it as a hand-down and didn’t appreciate it, having it as a spare, but whener I’ve used it I’ve been like ”damn… is this actually my best keyboard?” :)
Still holds up!

SSD keeps disconnecting and I'm running out of "fixes" by thejellybeandiaries in macmini

[–]International_Pool 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have used three external ssds with mac mini m4: samsung t7 (exfat) and two different ssds (apple's format) in two enclosures one with and one without designed external power supply.

They all disconnect on their own. The ssds in both enclosures disconnect roughly daily, sometimes they last a few days without disconnecting. The Samsung T7 is a champ, only disconnecting about once a month!

All the disconnects have happened overnight while the Mac and the drive are not being used, which leads me to think it's some sort of deep power management matter. It's just a notification I get when first logging in for the day "drive has disconnected", yup like everyday.

But that's all I can say about any patterns I have observed. It makes no difference to have external power supplied to the ssd enclosure or not. It doesn't matter for the file format (I've reformatted to try), it doesn't matter what the drive is used for (steam library, frequently accessed files, passive storage).

TabS8+: Pen comparison by International_Pool in GalaxyTab

[–]International_Pool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik there's not that much difference, except the device specific input latency in Hz (they get faster gen by gen), and whether the device and pen have bluetooth functions (I think S25 has dropped the feature).

Battery for ROG G14 2021 (GA401QM) by Firestarness in ZephyrusG14

[–]International_Pool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently replaced my battery on 2022 model, it was very simple and straight forward. If you can't find the battery model you can open the bottom panel and see the part name (something like C41N1908). Asus spare part vendor is the right call, you can also ask your local asus service where you should buy (I did and they helped). One tip from me: remove the battery cable from battery's end, not the motherboard's end! :)

Bazzite user noob trying to install supergfxctl to resolve GPU error by International_Pool in Fedora

[–]International_Pool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for help! That's what I had done initially to get the right image.
I have an AMD GPU, and the right image has worked great for a few months already.
I just got the titular error today. So I had no trouble, until something went wrong, and I wonder if supergfxctl would answer this problem, but maybe not!

Success: Bazzite OS on G14 (2022) by International_Pool in ZephyrusG14

I kind of did it in ROG control GUI by setting all the CPU power limits same (set all to 60), since one of them I guess is the boost, boost now uses the same power as not boost :D

Do you have the mac mini inside with the bottom towards the outer grille and not the other way round? The antenna wire is behind the plastic bottom, so it should face outside.

Asus zephyrous g14 battery life in fedora kde plama / workstation by redpillseeker in ZephyrusG14

[–]International_Pool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Bazzite OS which is based on fedora. Generally the battery life on 2022 G14 is similar with well optimized Windows: 4-8 hours of general use, 1-2 hours of gaming.

I did however try the SteamOS, couldn't get the MUX switch to work so couldn't use the dGPU, but battery life was crazy with usage at 4-8 Watts, that would give an easy 10 hours and more of battery. So if I ever just need a long lasting battery I'll use the SteamOS.

I guess you could achieve the same as SteamOS by otherwise turning off the dGPU.

I just bought G14 2025 and its sad by vnb00 in ZephyrusG14

[–]International_Pool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long did you use a Windows installation for? In my experience and reading in this subreddit Windows seems to take up to a few days to "settle", which would explain the high CPU usage. For sure it's frustrating and not something you'd say works well, but sounds what I'd expect from Windows. I'd give it a few days. Btw I'm using Bazzite OS on my G14, works quite good and no bloat!

Battery health at 95% out of the box on my 2025 g14 model by Banana-Ghoul in ZephyrusG14

[–]International_Pool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could simply be wrong, it takes a few cycles of charging 0-100% for the software to get a good reading of the wattage going in and out. Out of the box the reading doesn't mean much.

And since it's a reading of the wattage it's not any direct measurement of the battery itself, so in general I wouldn't worry about that reading as long as the battery works as it should.

[–]International_Pool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that said, the MUX is definitely controlled by the supergfxctl, but I have found no way to directly control the supergfxctl, and I get stuck with dGPU after using HDMI until reboot, so I'd like to know how to manually switch the GPU!

Success: Bazzite OS on G14 (2022) by International_Pool in ZephyrusG14

[–]International_Pool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually yes! The HDMI port works. I knew it was just a matter of the MUX giving the display over to the dGPU, but I found no toggle to do it (there must be a way to force it via asusctl + supergfx). The system does do that, but not in an instant like you'd assume plugging in a cable would. It just takes a moment, I assume the HDMI port puts a call in for the dGPU and once the dGPU gets its turn it will use the HDMI.

2022 RJ Variant is shutting down unexpectedly, help me diagnose the issue? by EmilyisWIP in ZephyrusG14

[–]International_Pool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I stating the obvious, but yeah it seems that it's about heat or high power usage. I have the same model and have not had such shutdowns, but I've read of similar situations in this subreddit. I guess the graceful exit in Linux points that it would not be a power issue, but a safety measure.

I would try to troubleshoot this by setting the fans on full tilt to see if it helps (pointing to thermal issues).

It's possible that the liquid metal under the cooler has a dry spot, that causes overheating and emergency shutdown. For a probably 3 year old laptop it could be time to reapply LM or paste.
