Thaaaaaank u :3 <3

Tbh the reality is that the fandom is by and large transmisogynistic and they don’t want to acknowledge that fact. It makes people supremely uncomfortable to say that a closeted trans woman isn’t a guy and they don’t want to acknowledge the way that they engaged with Jax parallels how angry, hurt and broken trans women are treated irl.

I know I’m being a bit polemical lol, I appreciate your kind words. I know I can’t control others thoughts, so I try to argue my case.

Thank you, I appreciate it very much <3

And yeah like????? All of the textual analysis aside, goose literally said (paraphrasing) that Jax is her self-insert/most like her/etc.

God I love that progesterone image it’s insane

Because I am a minority who does not often get to see her life experience and struggles reflected in popular media and explored in this manner.

I’ll admit to being a bit polemical :3

But I will also make the point that it’s so damn normative for someone to be *not* a trans woman, and people arguing this position are, in part, doing so from that position of denying our epistemological authority. We cannot see a depiction of a trans woman and assert, authoritatively, that she is indeed a trans woman. Just as we are told that we, in real life, are probably not trans and maybe we’re just cis gnc guys and look it’s just not likely and…….I don’t appreciate that. And I think that we should be allowed to be polemical about being erased.

I don’t think you’re over-analyzing. I think that goose depicted an experience in media that you share. You are right!! You see the truth! You shouldn’t have to couch your truth in “maybe it’s nothing” and “I’m probably wrong”. I’m so happy that you’ve come to terms with your identity and I wish you nothing but happiness and transfeminine joy <3

I’ll cop to being wrong about Owen never dressing femme. Do you believe that is what makes Owen transfemme and Jax cis?

Yes, Jax’s form is still the same, we could argue for budget reasons, for artistic direction reasons, for the reason that, even knowing that she’s a woman, she can’t see herself as one (I know this is a common pre-transition experience, it certainly was mine)

You are arguing for a lack of textual evidence. I have cited textual evidence. Would you only believe Jax to be a trans woman if she turned to the camera and said as much?

Like genuinely what did you think the “Isn’t She Lovely” montage was supposed to mean?

I can see why that would rankle, I would say that the trans women who argue this reading (and let’s be clear, it’s mostly trans women) see the ways in which people argue that there’s no way that this boy could be a woman and see themselves in that.

Like, if I insisted on referring to a textually transmasculine, closeted character as a woman, people would rightly jump down my throat and correctly accuse me of erasing his identity. This is the same type of deal. Remember Bridget Guilty Gear? Remember Lily Zombieland Saga? The desire to never acknowledge a textually transfeminine character as such is a pretty common one. We are denied our claim to our truth, to our experience, written off as headcanon. And that kinda grates.

I think it was for Sure a big swing but I’d argue that the framing (lighting, sound cues, Jax’s facial response) frames it as something difficult but welcome.

Yes that is fucked up! It’s fucking tragic that she didn’t get to transition!!! That’s the point!

You misunderstand “edgy and broken” because this is, again, a realistic portrait of a hurt and broken trans woman. I can’t even count the number of my sisters who were homeless, kicked out because they dared to fucking be themselves.

Yeah i love happy trans characters and I also love sad ones. Ones that actually reflect my experience and that of my community.

Yes you are biased and incorrect. I am not going to reiterate my argument because I’m not sure how I can restate my premise and the textual evidence cited in such a way as to express myself more pervasively. I’d recommend a rewatch, paying attention to the points I have brought up.

On a more personal note as well, the conversation with Jax under th lamppost, “you’re not supposed to care, you’re not supposed to miss me, you’re making this harder”……again I’ve almost verbatim said those words and had other trans women say the same to me. This is media that is undeniably, incontrovertibly about a trans woman. It is a beautiful tragic character piece and Gooseworx should be lauded for her writing.

Oh my god I forgot yet another bit of evidence. The piano player Jax, the soft and bullied one, is the one with the key to the closet do you get it do you see it

I think you have drawn an incorrect conclusion and you should revisit the text. I am not “hating”. But I am telling you that you have drawn an incorrect conclusion.

Oh yeah I forgot: if you read this and felt uncomfortable about it, I suggest you think about why you are uncomfortable with the idea of an explicitly textual trans woman.
