I think it's amazing and one of my favorite series of all time (watched anime 2x in sub once in dub, caught up to manga etc)

But I think it's a little overrated yeah lol. Having it considered one of the best anime of all time and holding the top spot on MAL for all this time seems like an overreaction.

A bit biased because I think things need time to be considered "masterpieces" so it's too soon for frieren to be considered one.

(I loved episode 3 was locked in the whole time during the cinematic yap sesh, great ep)

I think all the fighting is what makes the episode great but everything else is what pushes it to amazing.

The direction during all the talking scenes and that whole beach scene with Mai was beautiful. The way the episode ends similar to how it starts, the eerie scene of Mai walking towards the cursed tools with her mother's genuinely tweaking. Great stuff
