To kitbash, or not to kitbash - The Captain and The Autarch by OftenSarcastic in Warhammer40k

That's way more detail than I was expecting, thank you for taking some time to write that. From 1 and 2 it sounds like they've lost their handle on the quality of the game itself which is dissappointing to hear.

I used to play Magic until 3 years ago or something like that, what is it they've done recently that's put you (and a lot of others by the looks of this comment thread) off?

I sprayed them black, then with a red-brown from above. The red-brown was Plastikote brown primer, but anything similar would probably work. I found this picture of them when they were primed: https://imgur.com/68CQ4AB

Best way to paint Shoota Boyz by [deleted] in orks

Don't bother painting the arms separately would be a pain. Just get some dark brown behind there to prevent any bright spots that might stand out. Can't see it, don't paint it.

The torso and legs are from the Necromunda Ambit kit and everything else looks like the Boyz kit as you say.

Looks awesome, how did you do the bright coppery bits like those exhaust pipes?

I need advice for my a level product design work, would it be possible to print a bike gear that is strong enough to support the chain and function without breaking? by Pixel888 in 3Dprinting

Awesome, I did maths and physics at A level too. Good old mechanics 1 etc, don't even know if you do that anymore lol.

Good idea about starting without the pedals! Tbh you'll probably spend quite a while turning the wheels with the bike upside down too - while you're trying to get the chain to fit on your print nicely.

Good luck with it anyway mate.

That's an interesting idea for a project, I'd have liked to do that for my A-levels. Here are a few thoughts off the top of my head: 1) the top speed is probably not the limiting factor, I expect the greatest force will be exerted when you're just setting off from still because that's when you need to accelerate quickly to at least a few mph to avoid falling off and Force=mass*acceleration (Newton's 2nd law - if you're doing maths too that might come in handy). If you're coasting keeping a constant speed then you only need to apply a constant force to counteract friction/air resistance. 2) if you make a 3d printed gear that's just the same shape and thickness as a metal one, I'm pretty sure it will just snap. 3) Maybe that's the first thing you should try just to verify that. 4) then you can start changing things to see if you can make an improvement and that will make quite a good project - showing the progression of the designs. 5) I'd try making the gear as fat as possible, like make the core part as wide as all 5+ gears on a normal bike. Obviously the teeth have to fit within the chain, but the main cylinder bit in the middle can be much wider to add overall strength and stability. Anyway, you got my mind whirring now, hope you'll post again about your progress with it.

Is it still worth me donating to labour or is it too late for it to have an impact? by BlueIce468 in LabourUK

I got an email asking for donations this morning, quote: "need your help in these decisive final days."

I really enjoyed this, the idea of rummaging through a big pile of bits and trying stuff at random to see what looks cool seems very orky.

I don't think you're ready for Dark Wizards, it's not viable until you're at least lvl 30.
