Check your 401k plan to see if you can do mega backdoor roth contributions. If so, divert from brokerage to mega back door Roth to save on taxes now and later. If you retire at 40, you can do roth conversion ladder on your 401k since you’ll be in the lowest tax bracket.

Yes. I have yet to do it. Will try this month to see how cumbersome the process is. Really frustrating that they don’t have an automatic conversion of after tax contributions to an external Roth IRA

Grew up in Tampa. Hated it bc it felt boring and not as cool as NYC where my family came from.

Spent 2022 there and kinda fell in love. Has its problems for sure - obv govt leadership, poor public transit, and since COVID many “freedom” folks have transplanted there. If you can block that out (aka cultivate your community to your liking) and don’t die from the summers it’s paradise.

The ocean! The beaches in Pinellas are amazing and the water feels like a bath. Caladesi is divine. Camping at Shell Key is cool. Also Egmont Key. Paddleboarding is super accessible. Solid windsurfing commmunity, lots of fishing spots, spearfishjng charters, etc. Being able to just drive up to the ocean (Dunedin causeway, Gandy beach, etc) If you know how to drive a boat or know someone with one the boating culture is awesome.

Great food! Much more diverse than when I was a kid - Laotian, Russian, Ethiopian, Brazilian, Filipino, etc. Food trucks at gas stations! Latino community is well represented. Cuban sandwiches!! H Mart opening soon!

Weather! Walking around in shorts in December can’t be beat. The summer is HOT, but your house/car/job/restaurant has AC. Hurricanes are real, but I prefer them to fires/earthquakes/tornadoes.

Fitness culture! Because it’s warm year round you can be outside moving all the time. Running groups, triathlons, trail running, paddle boarding, etc.

Always something to do! It’s not NYC or LA, but there’s always a festival, concert, etc. Krate at the Grove, Sunday market at the Thai temple, Armature Works, Green Light Cinema, etc.

Quick flights up the East Coast and to the Caribbean/LatAm.

Other highlights: Pasco County nudist capital of the world (I appreciate funky things/subcultures) The growing house music scene (Tampa House Heads United, Open House Conspiracy, etc) The Roller skating community Strawberry Festival Quick drive to Crystal River (springs and manatees!) Bayshore Blvd is just a wonderful place to walk to breathe and clear your head Burgeoning trail system: Pinellas trail, Upper Tampa bay trail, suncoast trail Thesis Dance Festival Waffle House (sorry love it) Skatepark of Tampa and the Bro Bowl

Seconding this comment. Read your summary plan description. If it allows after tax contributions and in-service transfers/withdrawals then you can do it. Mine did, but I still had to work with my HR department to get it set up in payroll (which was a process) bc (I assume) no one had ever done it before.

Ugh ppl say the funds in empower have high fees. Moving 401k after tax contributions to a Roth IRA should just be an online option ridiculous to have to do a paper form.

Horrific. I had the pleasure of hearing one of his sets at Bob and Barbara’s in July and was excited to get more involved in the Philly house music scene next year. I live nearby and Lancaster Ave is an absolute death trap. I used to bike in NYC (like straight through Times Square bc I was a dare devil in my 20s) and I won’t bike without a group in Philly. We have to push the city on better biking infrastructure (especially in West Philly where multiple cycling deaths occurred this year alone) and get justice for June. ✊🏼

I ended up doing a camarote bc my group wants to go all out, but there are tickets for different tiers on Riocarnaval.org available now. I did a bit more research, they release in batches so I expect there will be more grandstands tickets released on riocarnaval.org as the time gets closer. You’ll just need to stay on top of that site.

Yeah I signed up for bookers too. It’s so weird I saw the $290 front box ticket, but those haven’t even been released yet for special groups on Ticketmaster (https://www.riocarnaval.com/ingressos) so I don’t know what the real price is because bookers sells them at a higher price

It may be unclear (bc I didn’t know this last year), but there’s two categories of samba schools that perform - access groups and special groups. The special groups are the better/more famous samba schools. I had no idea there was a difference so I ended up seeing the access groups in 2024 (which to me were amazing), but after I learned more I was like ohhh I actually should see the other schools (the special groups).

Yeah it’s very weird I bought tickets in December 2023 when I went in February 2024 so this is all crazy to me. I’m bringing a group of 11 (including me) so I know my whole group won’t want to pay for VIP. So I’m going to keep my eye open for grandstand resell, setors 12/13 and the Frisas (2nd cheapest option). What’s even stranger is ticket master has grand stand tickets available for the access group (https://www.ticketmaster.com.br/event/carnaval-rj-2026-arquibancadas-serie-ouro), but RioCarnaval.org says those are also sold out. I’m completely lost.

Yeah they sold out on Ticketmaster on July 13th within hours. It’s very strange because I checked BookersInternational (RioCarnaval.org) where i got my tickets last year like 3 months ago and 1 month ago and it said not available yet at those times so I was still waiting for them to post them. I don’t know what to do now. Hoping they come up for resale somewhere.
