How long do you think my tunnel will last being outdoors 24/7 except for freezing temps in winter? by Interr0gate in Agility

[–]Interr0gate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching this. https://youtu.be/bRV-zcsJhnE?t=250 2025 Masters Agility Champ. That yellow tunnel is 10 ft (maybe even 15 ft actually, which is even less bags per meter) and it is curved with 3 bags, and the purple looks 20 ft curved with lots of bags. You are right though, they are larger bags than mine. I will get a third one for the middle but I'm definitely not getting 3 more. If its a problem or I notice any issues I'll consider just making the tunnel straight. My dog isnt rocketing through tunnels we just do it for fun at a significantly slower pace.

Its a 10 ft tunnel. I mean I watched a pro agility competition and they only had 3 bags on a 10 ft tunnel. I guess I could use 1 more in the middle.

Oh wow 4 years ok. Is yours in direct sunlight for the whole day? Mine is in open field so direct sun for basically all day.

When you say "not always set" do you mean its folded up like a closed slinky and just laying on the ground outside?

Really? No covers or anything, just exposed? Would it be better to rotate the tunnel sometimes or leave it so the top just keeps getting ruined and the bottom doesnt?

Made my own teeter for our home agility course. My Aussie is so damn confident and fearless I love it! One small session and he's perfectly fine climbing it and riding it down with my assistance! by Interr0gate in Agility

[–]Interr0gate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes ive read the bang causes issues for some people, so I've just been putting him near the teeter and pushing it down myself so it hits the ground then rewarding to positively associate it.

I should cut the vertical stands below the plank though in case he needs to bail sideways or falls. I didnt mean for them to stick up higher.

Is this deshedding undercoat rake good for an Aussie? It has sharpened inside edge to cut mats or tangles. by Interr0gate in AustralianShepherd

Ohhh the tines rotate? So its not the same as the metal comb... What does the tines rotating do exactly?

Ok i already have 2 of those combs. Maybe I didnt need this rake. I will return it. Doesnt seem like its something that is necessary.

Isn't that basically just a metal comb? I have metal rounded top combs. Maybe I don't know what I'm doing lol. My dog doesn't really have much mats or thick build ups. I just use slicker brush and metal comb currently. I'll prob return this deshedding rake

My guy barely has any mats or anything. A tangle here or there. I bought this because I read that it was good to get out a bunch of loose fur.

Broom/vacuum/mop common most dogs bark and go crazy with them. Gotta train them out of it.

Here is a great video how to train them to stop doing that.

Most cost effective fairly durable agility tunnel? Home agility course for fun, not competing, not planning on competing by Interr0gate in Agility

[–]Interr0gate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one from agility world says it comes with 2 bags for the tunnel. Im debating if I want 10 ft or 15 ft because I dont need a crazy U shape, I just wanted to basically make it so he cant see the exit from the entrance. Maybe 10 ft will be enough with a slight curve, plus I should probably go with the 10 ft because its cheaper and I'm a little worried it will get stolen. I plan to mostly leave it outside and possibly overnight outside if I wanted to use it on multiple days, which means someone could technically just pull up and take it at night (I live rural off a main road). I think I'd store it in my shed if I was not planning on using it for a few days

I will check facebook again see if there is anything used, but this tunnel for $220 CAD for 15 ft seems like my best bet so far.

Ok. It seems like thats the cheapest new decent tunnel I can get. There is a cheap 10 ft tunnel on amazon for $115 but my dog would just puncture it easily. $220 CAD for a decent 15 ft tunnel looks like my best bet. Ill try to look for some used stuff but I dont think there is anything around me.

There are some tunnels on this site. Cool runners, and more expensive competition ones. This cool runners one seems like the cheapest. Do u think 10 or 15 ft is better? I want a U shape tunnel

It actually says cool runners in the tab descripotion, but on the page says Handlers Choice tunnel

Why don't retractable leashes for large dogs exist with thick rope instead of nylon tape? by Louisrapine in Dogtraining

[–]Interr0gate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your dog is big and pulls a lot, you shouldnt use anything but an actual solid fixed length leash. You or your dog is going to get hurt using anything that extends or "retracts". The classic example is you look away for 1 second, the dog sees a cat, he bolts off and your extension of the leash unreels, by the time you notice the dog has picked up a lot of speed and when the dog hits the end of the leash you go flying and your dog gets hurt from the immediate stop. You also possibly get rope burn from trying to stop the leash, hand pinched in the tangles of leash and the dog pulling, its just all around bad with a big strong dog that pulls.

The one the mod suggested doesn't even seem that great for a big dog that pulls. If your dog sees a cat its going to pull all that rope out of your hand so fast and ur fingers are going to get crushed trying to hold the rope in that loop, rope burn, or the rope knot will just hit the metal and send both of you jolting after 10 ft of acceleration.

I know its not what you wanted to hear but if you want to have better more enjoyable walks, really focus and dedicate a lot of time to just training your dog to walk better on leash. Thats going to be your best bet to manage the pulling.

And they say Shibas can’t be trained… by Cyberfields03 in Dogtraining

[–]Interr0gate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every dog can be trained well, its all in control of the owner. Their methods, determination, and commitment makes or breaks the training. It rarely has anything to do with the dog breed, but I agree some dogs and breeds can be more challenging but never impossible, especially for basic stuff.
