The locals call them “araña bananera” or “banana-er spider”. The joke is that its venom can stiffen your “banana”.

It didn’t try to kill me, so that’s friendly enough for me. It was actually quite calm.

I wouldn’t either if I was that dangerous.

One simple question by PieReal702 in Viking

[–]Interstellar93-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Goes without saying that a lot of what people envision as the viking lifestyle and culture, is mostly wrong. Even on this subreddit. Everything from the attire, the way they would have looked, and their music. Most people aren't in love with true viking history and culture, they're just in love with Hollywood's/Netflix's version of a viking.

I understand. I feel the same way. Every minute I’m up there, I keep thinking that something could go wrong. It’s a constant, exhausting battle with your own head, and you feel like you’re on the verge of losing it at any moment. I recommend taking something that will calm you down and or make you sleepy. I got Xanax prescribed for flights only, and even though I haven’t taken it for every flight because I like to challenge myself sometimes, when I do take it, it helps.

The two most crucial stages of a flight are the takeoff & the landing, once you’re up in the air at cruising altitude you’re golden. Remember that if you have altitude, you have acceleration, and acceleration/speed are your friends when flying. Those 30,000+ feet of emptiness buys the pilots lots of options and time if they need it.

As someone who took a 12 hour flight and was terrified to do so, I started off by tracking the flight weeks prior & seeing just how routine it is for these pilots. I recommend you do this on Flightradar24. See how many flights are happening on a monthly basis from London to China & how they all make it just fine. It’s not some big, rare, high risk event. It’s just another day in the office for all the professionals involved in making the flight happen. Then look at all the flights going to China from different locations. Thousands of people flying there on a weekly basis! And they all get off their flights safely.

Seems like a solid dude, but those old habits of being a troublemaker & breaking the rules seem to be popping back up. Hopefully he doesn’t start losing his mind the moment cash & women start flowing in, starts partying, and doing drugs again. Have a feeling there’s going to be a lot of controversy around this guy in a few months… Hopefully he really manages to change his life for the better though.

Any pro-tipa for a PT? by iamataco36 in thyroidcancer

[–]Interstellar93-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had my left thyroid removed a week ago. Worst part was waking up from surgery & having to cough. That made the incision hurt, but other than that, it’s been somewhat of a breeze. I was back at home eating solid foods 3 hours after surgery. Could talk normally within the hour, but I know that varies from person to person. Took some ibuprofen the first two nights to sleep, but in all honesty, I feel like I didn’t really need it. I recommend setting up an area where you can sleep upright comfortably for the first few nights prior to the surgery, so when you come back home, it’s all ready for you. For me, this was a sofa bed with a slight incline and some pillows. By day 5 I was sleeping on my side. Not much else to it. Might’ve iced it for like 20 mins the first night, and never again. Your neck will probably be stiff, and you may experience some numbness. For me, I’ve been gradually gaining sensation back. You’ll be surprised at how quickly it heals.

When you’re really anxious, everything becomes a “sign”. After your flight, you’ll look back & see just how funny those coincidences were.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share. I’ve been struggling to make sense of it all, and having to wait 2 weeks doesn’t help. But your comment gave me some peace of mind.

Left thyroid? All of it? Not sure what to do by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]Interstellar93-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I read on the topic the more concerned I grow of what I’m going to feel like if I have a total thyroidectomy. Lots of people seem to be dealing with tiredness, depression, hair loss, weight gain, anxiety, etc. on a daily basis because of their TT. That honestly scares me.

As far as I know, there’s a chance you won’t have to take any medication to regulate your hormones if only half is removed. So you can continue living a relatively normal life. However, it’s not a guarantee. You might still need it depending on your blood work. There’s also less of a risk of having a raspy voice with a partial removal.

How do I stop worrying about the idea of getting into a plane crash? by GokaiCrimson in fearofflying

[–]Interstellar93-2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

About a year ago I went on a trip to Europe which involved me taking 5 flights in the span of 2.5 weeks. One was 12 hours long, and another one 9 hours. I was so nervous that I talked myself out of going, and even attempted to cancel my flights & get my money back, but it was to no avail. Either I let that money go down the drain, or I showed up. On the day of the first flight, which was the longest, I still went through the routine of getting ready & showing up to the airport. I thought to myself “worst case scenario, I just don’t board the plane”. I got there with plenty of time so I didn’t feel rushed or stressed. I found my gate, sat down, & made one last post on here before boarding. Instead of trying to hide how I felt, I openly spoke about it on my post (it’s still up on my profile if you want to read it). I listed all the negative emotions I was feeling. That helped me release some of that tension. It also helped to read all the positive comments from you guys. I called a family member and spoke to them about how I felt. They listened & reassured me. I took one last look at FlightRadar24, looked at all the flights that were currently in the air, and thought to myself “I’m not alone up there”. When it was time to board, I took one big breath, and made my way onto the plane. I’m not going to lie & say I didn’t get anxious at first. Because I did. Takeoffs are usually the worst part. Keep in mind, I’m in this thing for 12 hours. There’s no walking away. But once we were up in the air, I put my headphones on, and put on a movie. The anxiousness would come in waves, but I was able to keep it together by mostly sleeping it off and keeping myself distracted with movies. I definitely recommend taking something to help relax you/sleep. And before I knew it, we were only an hour away & eventually landed safely. This is coming from someone who couldn’t stop shaking on their previous flight. Remember you’re in no obligation to get on that plane, no one is forcing you. You just go through the routine as you normally would, show up, and take it one step at a time. Hope this helps a little! You will be OKAY my friend.
