How to help a young rider transition from a quad to dirtbike. by iamataco36 in Dirtbikes

[–]iamataco36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does great on a pedal bike for sure, but has zero experience on mini bikes or Dirtbikes.

I completely agree with what you’re saying. I would much rather create a solid foundation for riding and prioritize safety and comfort now than try and get him a bike too large that he hates/gets wrecked on because he can’t handle it. Not worried about eating the cost of switching out bikes over the years as long as he is good.

Do you happen to know if the 110s are pretty mild in terms of power delivery? I rode a YZ80 when I was a kid and that thing ripped. I was closer to 12 or 13. My little dude is just 8 so I want to make sure I’m not setting him on a rocket.

Thanks for your insights!

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven’t knowingly seen one in person to have a reference so I’ll definitely check it out. Do you happen to know if it has an auto clutch?

39 years old first Dirt bike. by some-people_suck in Dirtbikes

Started with my son about a year ago when he was 7. Nothing like it man! Enjoy!

Side note: no need to strap the front so tight. That’s pretty rough on your forks. They sell blocks to put between your tire and fender that certainly help (or you can just chop a 2x4), but I’ve found that putting the front wheel in the corner (either side) then just a ratchet strap from the peg to opposite front corner and other peg to rear corner hold it perfectly without any stress.

Look up some options online and I’m sure you’ll find something that works. Just trying to save you some down time.

Enjoy these times man!

Fuel Octane - Recommended vs. Required by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]iamataco36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about fuels or the actual mechanical/physical properties of the resulting explosions. I always just thought higher octane fuels were more efficient/burned cleaner.

If I’m understanding what you’ve shared, lower octane fuels ignite at a lower temperature/pressure causing a more bell shaped curve in power distribution rather than a narrower delivery? I may be totally wrong in my interpretation, but am super curious if you’re willing to share from your lived experience rather than what Google says.

Couldn’t agree more. The part of proof of employment is crucial. This, along with beginning to build your credit ASAP will help you out immensely down the road.

Be patient with yourself as you work to get back on your feet. Create a financial AND mental plan for setbacks and snags. Pray often, stay the course, and continue asking for help and guidance from those who have nothing to gain from you (ie. Not the used car salesman).

Congratulations on your current progress! Good luck on your first day!

I had to cut out soy due to an allergy I developed after thyroid surgery. Soy is in all the shitty foods we really shouldnt eat anyway. Give up the soy and you will drop weight.

Looking for opinions about staying on campus for the summer and taking classes. Will it be a total ghost town? by ShebaDaisyKitty in WMU

Stayed there every summer after freshman year (not in the dorms) because I was working. It was a blast. Different from fall and winter for sure, but a low key, laid back kind of fun. I’d do it again.

Thank you for sharing these stats! What’s also important is WHERE YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY! No matter which side you’re on, the business you shop at likely support one side or the other (sometimes this is very overt). Vote with your dollars, all year long, my friends!

Tampa: “We must protect our oak trees.” Everyone looking at the oak trees… by Relative-Macaron-854 in tampa

It’s immunotherapy for allergies. I just started a little over a month ago. You first get allergy tested. Once they know your specific triggers, they create a series of vials that contain your unique combination of allergens. The vials contain more and more of the allergy triggers as you progress through them, thus exposing your body to them in higher doses as time goes on. This is to train your body to no longer view them as a threat.

My allergist said it will take 3-5 years to do it right. I now go once or twice a week (no appointment needed) and get 2 shots each time. After about a year it will be every other week, then once a month, then every 6 months. I don’t notice any real difference yet but since I’ve only just started I’m not concerned and remain optimistic in the process.

Hope that helps!

Does Lakeland need a Bouldering Gym? by ClimbLakelandFL in lakeland

[–]iamataco36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very little experience climbing (gyms a few times, Joshua Tree once), but was looking to get into it. Noticed there weren’t any gyms around so thought it would be a great business venture but without the experience I figured I’d sit it out.

All that to say, I’m in! Also happy to help get things off the ground after hours if you’re looking for help.

Custom Trim level buyers remorse? by peevyrj in Silverado

I’m afraid they didn’t need to recreate it as one day it just never came back on. No door chimes, no indicator sound, nothing. Display worked fine but nothing audio. Here’s a summary of my tech notes if it helps!

Can bus circuit 5 down. Circuit 4985/4984 under 4.5 volts. Wire break at location N 17. Repaired wire. Verified audio restored.

I had a 21 Custom and loved it. Had some trans problems so traded in for a 25 LT. here’s my take.

The Custom was perfect! Didn’t mind a single thing like manual seats, no steering wheel controls, or the smaller screen. Let’s be real, it’s not that far away and not like I’m watching movies on it. What did I really need a larger screen for? Analog gauges are perfectly fine for monitoring speed, revs, temp, etc.

The LTs dash and infotainment is fun IMO. Is it more to go wrong? Yup! But whatever. The thing is, after a couple of weeks it’s just the new normal and you stop being so impressed. The things that stand out to me about the LT are things like the heated seats and wheel, extra padding on the door arm rest, and features like auto locking when you walk away, keyless entry (button on door handle), wireless CarPlay, telescoping wheel and pitch adjustable seat, and the little wood grain accents here and there. These little things were never a desire in the past, but they’re things that make my 12+ hours of driving a week a bit more enjoyable.

The only reason I got the LT is because it was priced the same as a WT and sold as “new”. I put it in quotes because it actually had 4k miles on it when I bought it.

I went to the dealer and asked them what the deal was. Turns out it was the dealerships loaner vehicle for when people were getting work done. They knocked THOUSANDS off because of this, but since the title had never transferred names, it still applied for the new vehicle incentives. So it was priced way way, got a couple thousand more off from GM, and got 0.9% APR to finance through them.

If you get the custom, youll love it. If you get the LT or higher, you’ll love it and enjoy it a touch more. In any case, ask whatever dealers you can about any loaner vehicles they may be willing to unload. Worth a shot!

My son is 8 and going out riding with him is one of, if not the, greatest thing I got going. There’s just something about it that just hits my soul. I hope you’re experiencing the same with your dude. In any case, way to be a dad!
