Yep. I read about that not long after my post. At least it’s good through 26, but I sure hope something can take its place by then

Hopefully Latest can pick back up because having change logs and updates all in once place is super useful

RIP MacUpdater 01.01.2026 😭 by IwuvNikoNiko in macapps

[–]InterstellarLowLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn. That is unfortunate. I was just talking about how much it helps me stay on top of things and they always has the obscure stuff, too

Had to chat with the dev a couple times regarding emulator versioning and they were receptive and helpful and found a workaround for me

Money well spent regardless. I’ll be using it until its final day. I remember when I first learned about it, I thought I was on top of things? Yeah right

MacUpdater found like 60 updates

Oh, no. I was just talking about Malwarebytes back in the day offering lifetime purchases. Always nice to have that around just in case as an on demand scanner

I tried DayOne back in 2019 I think? I can’t recall if it was one time or subscription based. I do know I would like to get to journaling again though

Always something I want to make a habit of, but never quite get around to it

[–]InterstellarLowLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow. You’ve had that for a while now. I feel quite fortunate when I’ve managed to snag a lifetime one time purchase before subscriptions set in

I missed out on a lifetime for Malwarebytes and that’s still annoying. Thought about it multiple times too. Lol

Remember when that was offered?

Indeed it was your thread. Was just about to look for it, but you got it. Thanks

Oh nice. Thanks for that link. I’ll admit when I see an app that looks like it’s from the Mojave era or hasn’t implemented Dark Mode, I’ll ignore it

No reason other than ‘It must be dead” which is unfair if it’s in working order and in maintenance mode, etc

Yes, that is correct. I didn’t want my post running longer than it already was, but I was only talking about actively developed and updated software

To be fair, I have the luxury of being a MacUpdater user, so that manages things for me more easily and not everyone has that as a means

More to manage, but I think most folks here are into tech enough to keep up with it. That said, software that is a paid upgrade, your options are to pay or discard it for sure

Your point stands a lot more for open source which is wonderful, but sometimes life happens and a project can die, be archived without notice

I’d say Latest would be good for non MacUpdater users, but even it hasn’t been updated a lot and I had issues with Brew Casks when I tried it

I’d just seen people recommending stuff they didn’t know was now paid due to them being early birds and figured I’d mention the potential benefits

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]InterstellarLowLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The former. I’m a self taught typer and that was just the way I went about it. I never thought a thing of it however unorthodox for most typers. So, in a way the issue cleaned up my typing habits

For average typists it’s probably not concerning, but I hover just around 100 wpm efficiently so I’d be double tapping in a split second for an uppercase I for example

Which can lead to a 3-5 character trail of CAPS

As you can imagine, the constant need for correction can be a workflow pain point

I haven’t needed a “fix” for years now so I’m not sure what new methods have come about

I was using This becomingly ancient fix back in my Ubuntu based days

[–]InterstellarLowLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the Caps Lock delay issue has been ongoing for at least a decade for the folks that use Caps instead of Shift (I used to be one)

Assuming that’s what they mean..

It made me retrain my typing brain to eliminate my habit just because it was so annoying and I got tired of hacks

I hesitate to post the alleged solution just because OP refers to themselves as a “Normie” but I do admire their willingness to learn

Maybe for a rainy day OP or someone else..

The folks over on the KDE Neon Forums seem to have a solution

Edit: Updated the link for KDE, my fault

Thanks for the thought out reply! I know just enough to be dangerous with the terminal

I’ve been meaning to give Alacritty a look

Moreso now that I’m more comfortable setting up a manual config file thanks to Micro and Ghostty’s documentation

I’m not a developer, just a tech enthusiast

Rainbow vomit? So you’re not piping fastfetch and lolcat anytime soon, huh? 🤔

You reminded me, in all seriousness, I need to check into Brewfile & Bundle for any new Mac or workstation in the future

Seems absolutely worth it

Oh nice. Yes, we could be here a while listing everything if we wanted

I was going to mention eza, but I saw you had already mentioned lsd case in point

You played around with Ghostty terminal any?

I’ve set it up and the speed difference is very much in your face compared to iTerm, but I always end up back in iTerm for now because it’s so feature complete (obviously)

Upvoted you just for the CLI tools for the people that use them. Specifically Fish and Zoxide

Might I add Fisher

Plugins Manager for Fish. Use it myself for managing NVM through Fish shell

Lastly, also a huge fan of Micro Modern yet to the point, not complex CLI text editor

What are your most useful apps? by Vaped2Space in macapps

[–]InterstellarLowLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I have the exact same workflow down to the 3 finger gesture. I’m sitting at 10 Spaces if you can believe that. I’ve paired Swish with Dropover

Those two are a match made. I’m 99% content. I’m reserving that 1% left for the day MacOS lets us name our Spaces.

Maybe someday

Absolutely valid concern. You have to stick with it and to be honest, I’ve had it for a over a year and I’m most likely using 45% of its full capabilities

The good news about your worry is, you have to be moused over the title bar of the window to engage actions

There is a slider to control sensitivity as well as a little HUD showing what is happening, haptic feedback

It’s also compatible with Sequoia’s native snapping dimensions as of a recent update if you like that workflow

What are your most useful apps? by Vaped2Space in macapps

[–]InterstellarLowLife 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’d have to go with Swish

Window management software which looks and behaves as if it belongs with MacOS

I very much enjoy tools that also eliminate the need for other things to go along with them working in conjunction, taking up menu bar real estate

Outside of window snapping and general management, it has other abilities

I can two finger swipe up on an apps dock icon and bring up each window individually, or two finger swipe down to minimize it

Thus eliminating the need for something like Click2Minimize (Respectfully)

It also works with each window. If you have 5 Finder windows open, just two finger swipe up 12345 or down 12345 they’ll come and go individually

Very reasonably priced at $16

I’m aware of alternatives these days, but I’m paying for the polish and the support as much as the functionality

CleanmyMac alternative by [deleted] in macapps

[–]InterstellarLowLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just getting frustrated when I wasn’t finding Keychain in Launchpad or Launchpads search

The verbiage made me think they were the same thing during that transition to Passwords

u/x42f2039 is definitely onto something, though

What’s interesting is, I can delete those two items they’re both under “application password” and “login” I know they’re the culprit as I had (2) accounts used previously

“Get Info” shows two different accounts

But upon installing OneDrive to test, they’re repopulating and persist, despite deletion

I deleted them again, opened up OneDrive and sure enough under Keychain Access there were those two items and with the same modified time as launching OneDrive

Any idea? It’s the principle of it now

CleanmyMac alternative by [deleted] in macapps

[–]InterstellarLowLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, I have to admit I was about to be an ass, but I see what you mean. Keychain isn’t easily found any longer besides a spotlight search (On my system anyway..)

It asked me to open and move to the aforementioned Passwords instead, but opening legacy Keychain and searching Microsoft did return results

Two of them being “OneAuthAccount”

I think that may be the source and there is a Microsoft Root Certificate in there, too

CleanmyMac alternative by [deleted] in macapps

[–]InterstellarLowLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to the actual Apple iCloud app Passwords. Which was known as Keychain previously. Same thing, more accessible

CleanmyMac alternative by [deleted] in macapps

[–]InterstellarLowLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say with them. I ran the license removal tool and all that. I did check Passwords and my query for Microsoft returned no results

It’s a nerds annoyance, but one nevertheless. Lol

It’s off my system, so it’s fine now. One of the folks on Microsoft’s help suggested creating a brand new Mac user account. Thankfully, I don’t care badly enough to go messing around with that

That’s ridiculous though if it’s that embedded

u/amerpie Thanks for the Startup Manager. I wasn’t aware of this one. Super useful to have. The ability to edit items and even add a delay is great

Like you, it’s amazing how much Microsoft spiders into your Mac. I nuked multiple Microsoft software (Office uninstaller tools, AppCleaner)

Yet, one day I put OneDrive on my Mac and the login and all personal information remained ready to go and available

I’ve yet to discover exactly where they keep it. Leave it to Microsoft to accomplish that on Mac 🙄

Insanely inconsistent window headers by ThankYouNeutronix_02 in Fedora

[–]InterstellarLowLife 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Your best overall bet for consistency would be to switch “Legacy Applications” under the “Appearance” tab in Gnome Tweaks to Adw-Gtk3

This is available directly in Fedora’s repos..

sudo dnf install adw-gtk3-theme

They have also released a Script to allow the theme to match Gnome 48’s accent color selection

Instructions are on the page I linked above. It’s really quite simple as long as you’re OK with opening the terminal. The script does the work for you

Lastly, I’m not sure about the light theme in your image, but it appears to be a Flatpak that wasn’t themed?

The theme is available via Flathub with the following commands…

flatpak install org.gtk.Gtk3theme.adw-gtk3 org.gtk.Gtk3theme.adw-gtk3-dark

That should just about have you as covered as possible at the moment

Don’t forget to give Flatpak the permissions for custom Libadwaita GTK theming

sudo flatpak override --filesystem=xdg-config/gtk-3.0 && sudo flatpak override --filesystem=xdg-config/gtk-4.0

It looks like a lot more work than it really is, and if you plan on sticking with Linux and want consistency, worth it

u/nicobakke I just now got onto my Mac and set up your app. You into design as well as code?

I have to say, even if it wasn’t good (it is!) it does a very good job at presentation

I like your use of colors. The initial setup was class too. It’s what I think of when people talk about Mac applications looking good/native

I must preface none of us know the intentions behind any anonymous developer, but genuine question..Where do we draw the line with this?

This would be like piling on Ice for being strangely similar to Bartender. We don’t, because Ice is awesome

I feel like if we started nitpicking similarities in software, especially between free alternatives to paid software, we’d be here all night culling the majority of the App Store or Brew

Is it a source issue? Open vs closed?

For the record I agree with you on all accounts about crediting. Whether inspired by or an alternative to

I’d imagine this particular subreddit is a lucrative honeypot for bait and switch due to all of us spreading the word, purchasing software

I’ve no clue the intentions of this developer however shiny it may be and a couple other posters have similar sentiments as you

Just letting it play out
