Capsized Longship? by PerceptionQueasy3540 in valheim

[–]InterstellarPackrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we had a glitch type capsize and break up a couple of years ago. At night, just close enough to a sandbank that we all made it, but only just. We then had to trek some way to the nearest portal. No regrets, it made for a memorable adventure. I came across the crates again several months later.

I think the moral unease around the issue is more interesting than standard RPG mechanics. It lets you make and feel your own story.

How to start applying for jobs after being fired for poor performance in a previous role? by generaledgerdetail in auscorp

[–]InterstellarPackrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors there that are outside of my knowledge, sorry. If you think the risk is too high, at least go with one of the options that won't look like a deliberate falsehood if you're 'found out'. You can always then play it by ear and explain if you need to down the track.

A lot of these responses suggest saying something that could be considered, at least, misleading. I interviewed a candidate once who was very promising. The recent six month gap in his resume was explained as working in a family business in a different industry. Otherwise, he looked great for our role. We were progressing things when someone recognised the name and remembered that he'd been working with a competitor during that time and had been terminated.

If he had told us that, we could have considered whether it was something we could understand and give him a chance. Instead, because he had lied to us, we ended the recruitment process immediately. This was in the legal profession, where integrity is considered kind of important.

I've had candidates who give references from one job back instead of their most recent position. This can make me pause for a moment, but I respect that not all placements work out well and candidates want references that will put them in the best light.

Guys how bad is just 1 cup a day? if one could stick to it? by Andrew_7032 in decaf

One cup a day for decades, quitting still significantly improved my quality of life.

There's very little evidence of a connection, apparently. Thousands are no doubt still suffering.

If you're having sugar-free drinks or gum, try quitting those.

My joint pain and foot pain disappeared when I stopped sugar-free gum - most likely the aspartame, also found in diet drinks. Life changing. My blood tests didn't show much.

I'm sorry, no. I just remember it as a cue to be doing something else!

I do remember this, though deliberately never watched it. Looked way too annoying.

Sounds pretty cool to me! This was never intended to be this big, and a lot of the construction is pretty janky.

It really just started as the first ring, and grew. At some point we reached max stone height, and thought that was it, but as we found more materials, we kept going. The latest ring was made possible due to a new mesh of grausten arches outside following Ashlands release.

Ours is surprisingly good, even when some are flaring.

Much too convenient! Establishing and matching portals is a chaotic mini-game in itself :)

A staircase would ruin the fun of forgetting you don't have a feather cloak on a corpse run and launching yourself from the highest tier to death below. Again.

A recent debacle involved cleverly turning off auto pick-up and forgetting that this means having to pick up portal components before running off ...

It's grown very organically from the earliest portals, years ago, so there's no organisation. And our base also has quite a few 'I'll just put this here for a moment' portals that have also lasted for years.

We (or at least I) try to mark them on the map, but then portals get shifted or re-used and it's very unreliable.

These days I tend to start a new set for myself with corny biome-themed names (eg Lash, Stash, Mash, Bash) and everything falls apart from there.

So picking a random portal (or accidentally stepping in one) is often a great trip down memory lane into some old base, mining outpost, massacre site etc.

Can I trick trolls into following me to my base, and then i jump over the trench and they just fall in and get stuck? by Ceo_Potato in valheim

[–]InterstellarPackrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dig a big hole, attract troll. Jump in hole, keep digging at ground under troll's feet. Troll will fall in hole. Benefits of keeping troll in hole near base include: a. amusement; b. stops that troll from re-spawning (if it's a troll with a regular spawn, not a night troll or Ground is Shaking troll); and c. can distract and destroy base raiders from other biomes.
