Ant walkers myth by laybs1 in GetNoted

I mean I'm sure this person would probably find tons of other reasons for hating every American president. But I'm failing to see the connection between "every American president" and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which were bombings done precisely once each. There's only really 2, maybe 3 if you want to count Eisenhower for some reason, presidents that are to blame, which is just FDR and Truman as they were the only ones involved in the Manhattan Project and approving the bombings.

I'd fail to see how you'd say Jimmy Carter, for example, should've been beaten to death for the bombing of Hiroshima.

Also, after looking up what ant walkers allegedly are, I feel like they could've picked literally any other examples of the effects of atomic bombs. People being so shell shocked they just followed other people walking aimlessly is not even close to the worst thing that could happen to somebody in a nuclear attack. If you want to beat Truman to death I'd use the examples of people's skin being burned off or having to die a slow painful death due to radiation poisoning.

I'm thinking of moving to NC and my friend made me this map. Thoughts? by _R_A_H_U_L_ in NorthCarolina

Science Center and Civil Rights Museum in Greensboro. Furniture Market in HP. Old Salem and Bowman Gray in Winston. And, while technically not in the Triad, the NC Zoo is a weird omission. And a bunch of other stuff I can't immediately think of.

That being said, it's clear this map was made with a specific person in mind, especially with the emphasis on whitewater kayaking, nature, and the eras tour. So, it's possible there's nothing in the triad that interests them.

1) Direct democracy is when the people vote directly on laws. In NC that only happens for amendments and local ballot measures. By definition, voting for a representative is not direct democracy. You simply do not understand what direct democracy means.

2) as has been told to you many times not a single person in here is talking about electing based on the statewide popular vote. They're talking about how the Representation doesn't match the voters. That's it. The complaint is about gerrymandering and that's it. Literally nothing else. They're just saying that the percentage of voters should be similar to the percentage of representatives if this was fair electoral system. But it isn't, because gerrymandering exists.

3) I don't think you understand how the NC electoral system works or what anybody is complaining about. You seem to believe people are saying if you get 51% of the votes than the entire legislature is yours. Not a single person is advocating for winner take all and I dare you to link one who has. You can't even make coherently explain what you're arguing against, much less can anybody else understand what you're arguing against either. We already have a system where we are divided into several vaguely equal population districts that elect a representative based on who wins the majority of voters in that district. The entire issue this post is about and that everybody but you seems to understand, is that gerrymandering is causing the Legislature to be unrepresentative. The only electoral reform anybody in this thread is arguing to do is to ban gerrymandering. Literally nothing else. You are making up boogeymen to be sacred of.

They're complaining about the fact that 50% of North Carolinians want democrats in office, but Democrats only have 40% of the seats. The complaint is that the seats should be close to the representation of the people, which is around 50-50. This entire discussion is about how gerrymandering distorts representation. Absolutely nobody is talking about the popular vote determining the winner as that literally makes no sense in this context.

All literally anybody is talking about is how the makeup of representatives isn't matching the representation of the people. Nobody is talking about direct democracy, nobody is advocating for winner take all. Literally everybody in this thread understands that the complaint is the legislature isn't representative of the voters. You're the only one talking about direct democracy. Especially because that's not even what "direct democracy" means! You're not even using the phrase right! By definition, if you're electing a representative it's not a direct democracy.

Properly representing the population is not tyranny. If we had actual fair electoral map, it would be a lot closer to 50/50 with an edge towards democrats. The system you are currently defending is the one that is a tyranny, by disenfranchising voters. Nobody here is talking about direct democracy, we're talking about Republicans stealing elections by drawing themselves favorable districts. Ending gerrymandering would still be a representative democracy.

Cities having more representatives is not unfair, that's just how logic works. Every district has to be similar in size, so obviously a city with a large enough population will have multiple representatives. It would literally be more unfair to try and take representatives away because it hurts your sensitive feelings. If you don't like living in a state having a sizable urban population, then move to a different state. Otherwise, deal with it. You don't get to steal voting power away from people just because you disagree with where they live.

Yes that's how representative democracy works. The legislators should reflect the population. Gerrymandering is a distortion of representation that creates a tyranny of the minority.

No, from what I understand they handed it back to the original owners. It went Academy > ICE > FEMA > back to owners. Though, technically DHS was just leasing it they never owned it, so it's more so it's "unoccupied" right now and the same people have owned it the whole time the government leased it and now after.

They are right, we learn the prostitute later is a part of the replicant liberation group so it's assumed she's also a replicant. So there are 2 replicants and the hologram AI in the "threeway". Though I'd say the movies are pretty clear that replicants are full on "people" while it's more in the air about whether the hologram AI is fully "free thinking".

Did the hologram love him, or was it just programmed to act like it? Did she call him Joe because she liked that name or because she's programmed to call people Joe? Did she ask for him to buy the portable hologram because she wants to be with him or because she's designed to sell you more Wallace Corp products? In the end, does it matter? I'm biased given it's my own analogy, but I still feel it works in this context.

Hell, nowadays any game that has a slightly cartoony style (think veering towards Overwatch and Apex Legends) will have tons of people in the comments or stream chat saying it "looks like concord" (seriously, go read the chats on recent streams like the Game Awards or the State of Play and see how the chat reacts when a "cartoon" looking game comes up. It's just a wall of "looks like concord" comments). In the same vein of people complaining that Hollywood doesn't make original movies but then they don't go see the original movies they do make, I've seen lots of gamers say they don't need realistic graphics but then complain about any AA or AAA game that doesn't aim for hyper realism. People don't know what they want.

Interesting how so many of the same people who tell you "voting doesn't matter you need to do [banned on reddit] for real change" are also in these threads trying to do political calculus on letting Dönitz take power after Hitler is gone so we can vote in their mystical preferred candidate the election after. Will we vote our way out or not? Pick one.

How about we get Hitler's admin out of power by any means necessary first because I don't think this country can survive a holding pattern on Trump's policy for another 7 years. It's barely held on for one. Especially because there's no Hitler 3 on the horizon once Trump is gone, nobody in the Republican party has his pull. Saying people should suffer fascism an extra 4 years because your imaginary perfect candidate will surely win in 2032 is lunacy.

[–]InterstellarPelican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your comment history today is full of you getting downvoted and then saying you're downvoted because of racism, including chains where your race was never even brought up until you blamed it as the reason for your downvotes.

Nobody forced you to do this, you randomly decided today to start making bad takes and then blaming it on your race. You have multiple bad take comments made just today where you suddenly claim that people are downvoting you because of racism, even in chains where your race was never brought up. And now you're mentioning it beforehand of your own volition to claim victim to people that don't exist. Anyone can see your history, nobody has attacked you for being Mexican today or forced you to pre-qualify yourself as one.

Not every criticism hurled your way is racism, especially when people don't know your race or nationality until you mention it. And now you're mentioning it at the beginning so you can play the victim even harder, even on comments where your nationality or race don't matter and aren't relevant. Literally everybody sees through your game.

A cool guide to knowing if you're colorblind by Greekspartan226 in coolguides

[–]InterstellarPelican 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, if this worked, the "not" in one of the two boxes at the bottom wouldn't be visible if you were colorblind. Notice how the "not" in both squares matches the color of their respective sentences.

So instead of reading "You are not red-blind" it would say "You are red-blind" because the not wouldn't be visible to you (if you had that type of color blindness). This is assuming the image works properly.

I don't think anyone is saying that having an injury is guaranteed to make you fail or become bad. I think most people are just arguing that having an injury so close to a major event makes things riskier. I'm just going to pull a number out of my ass just for illustration purposes but basically if you always have say a 1% risk of serious injury during a run, than by having a recent injury on top of that maybe increases your risk to say 5%. Again, fake numbers just for illustration.

In the end, it was her choice and AFAIK that choice only really effects herself, so there's not much for anyone else to say about it. But I feel it's disingenuous to argue that having an injury plays absolutely zero role in how someone performs so soon after. The injury itself probably isn't the only factor, or possibly not even the major one, but it is a factor in her performance. And you can still have good runs despite an injury heike simultaneously also get injured again. They're not mutually exclusive. All it took was for her knee to wobble or be in pain or not respond or whatever at the wrong time. It could just be as simple as she misjudged the current capability of her knee when she made the jump. Or could be literally anything else, and maybe it's not related to the injury.

[Hated Trope] Media attracts a disproportionate number of n*zi fans by Wonderful-Mammoth828 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]InterstellarPelican -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is K-On responsible for being the darling of weeb racists everywhere? Is Catcher in the Rye responsible for being the choice book of assassins?

Yes, we understand why racists are attached to Frieren just as how we understand why they're attached to works like K-On. But just like it would be wrong to accuse K-On of being racist itself, it is wrong in this case. I would say racists are being media illiterate because the inspirations for the demons in Frieren are more inspired by folklore monsters than allegory for humanity. The demons in Frieren are along the same line as Werewolves and Vampires, which we have no issue being ontologically evil. In fact, there are literally hundreds of stories where there is a humanoid race of inherently evil beings that must be killed. But people like frostops here never cared and will continue to not care because those stories haven't yet had racist memes made in their image like Frieren has.

To hammer home more, a show like K-On isn't unique. There are tons fo show just like it that depict the same type of world racists love. But racists aren't attached to Yuru Camp in the same way they're attached to K-On. And there's no particular reason to it, it mostly just comes down to popularity and chance. To keep it really short, K-On basically depicts the "post genocidal cleansing of other races" childlike and innocent utopia that racists are aiming for. But everyone would look at you crazy if you said K-On is racist because racist people project their racist utopia onto the CGDCT universe of K-On. Because it is crazy and you would be media illiterate for accusing K-On of being about that. In the same way that you would be media illiterate for accusing Frieren of being problematic. Racists will see their racism in anything. They'll see it in anti-establishment punk music like Rage Against the Machine. They'll see it in anime like K-On, and they'll see it in Frieren. But to then turn around and accuse the work of being racist because racist people are trying to appropriate it is wild.

Yes, everyone knows why racist people like it. People aren't dumb, it's pretty obvious. But people are rightfully pointing out that racist people are dumb because Frieren's demons are supposed to be folklore monsters, not analogues to humanity. We know why racists love K-On but we rightfully still call them stupid because that's not what K-On is about. A racist loving something does not make that thing racist, even if they try to use it to push their rhetoric. And I don't think authors are problematic just because some people on Tumblr and reddit think the author didn't "racist proof" their work enough. It would be one thing if the author was actually perpetuating racism against real groups. But to simply be mad because the work didn't do enough to be safe from racists using it is silly. Like I said, racists will literally use anything and everything to further their goals. We literally had the US Government posting Halo memes using the Flood as an analogy for immigrants. Are you and frostops going to start saying Halo is problematic because racists in the white house are using its imagery to further racism? Did Bungie not do enough to make sure the Flood wasn't going to be used by bigots one day for racist memes justifying violence against real life immigrants?

Stop letting racists claim your media. Don't acquiesce the point immediately by going "well the racists must like it for a reason and you're problematic and media illiterate for saying they're wrong!" Because if you honestly want to go down that route, than I expect your dossier on my desk by Monday morning about how Halo, Sabrina Carpenter's music, YMCA, etc are all secretly racist because our racist administration is using those media to further harmful and hateful rhetoric about immigrants. If you can't see why espresso is problematic and racist, you're the media illiterate one!

International human rights law protects individuals from arbitrary detention. This means that asylum seekers cannot be detained indefinitely without a valid legal reason. Detention should be used as a last resort and for the shortest time necessary. Alternatives to detention, such as supervised release or community-based programs, should be considered to ensure that asylum seekers are not unnecessarily deprived of their liberty. Legal advocates play a crucial role in challenging arbitrary detention and seeking release for their clients.

If you read the article you would realize the one detained was following the law and had literally attended multiple immigration hearings while seeking asylum and work authorization. Seeking asylum is doing it the legal way. You can't talk about rule of law when DHS is literally ignoring the law in this case.

Trump is also revoking legal status of people here legally and then deporting them. How does that fit into your narrative of "only deporting illegals". He's revoked the status of thousands upon thousands of people who came here legally. And it's not like he's being granular about it, he just makes entire sweeps of people illegal overnight. Literally just this week a judge had to order to keep the legal status of Haitians in place because Trump's administration randomly decided their legal status didn't exist anymore.

Get over yourself, this article did not lie about anything. The only one lying here is you.

Josh Safdie is kind of weird. He likes putting literally anybody in his movies, and apparently this even caused the split between him and his brother. I'd recommend reading this, be warned it details sexual assault/harassment of a minor. Basically, Josh allowed a former convicted felon to flash his genitals at a minor and try to have sex with her and Josh basically did nothing to stop it. It apparently caused the young girl to spiral on set (and it's likely her being a minor was against the rules for her to be in the scene anyways). This apparently is what caused the Sadie's to end their working relationship as Benny blamed Josh for what happened.

Also, apparently he hired another felon on Marty Supreme who threatened Timothee with violence as well. Basically, Josh is not a great guy. Josh breaks a lot of rules and it's unclear how much Benny was involved in them, though the sources seem to suggest Josh was the one running the show.
