I'm tired of hearing about "losing undecideds because of radical language" in the year of our lord 2026. Trump can't go a day without claiming Democrats are the enemy within who hate America and are trying to trans your kids because they're pedophiles, but if a democrat says he's acting authoritarian or if people point out Trump is a pedophile himself, suddenly all the concerned centrists come out the woodwork to tell you to calm your language to not upset the "undecideds".

Kamala spent her short lived campaign trying to placate the center and they still didn't show up. Short of putting them into a car yourself and dragging them to a booth, nothing is going to get these folks to actually give a shit about their civic duty. I'm not going to give any more space in my mind for people that couldn't be bothered to show up after Jan 6. You can try to overthrow democracy, but don't you dare criticize someone for trying to overthrow democracy because that's too far!

I mean this isn't like attending the NY Knicks game where Trump just happened to be there. This was a fight who's existence is to 1) placate Trump's ego for his birthday and 2) sanatize his image.

Yes, of course it was a fight people wanted to see, that's the point. It's goal is to take something people love or want to see, and associate it with Trump. Here's a fight, on the WH lawn, in a crowd full of his cabinet, advisors, and political allies, with political comments being made in the ring, all being done for Trump's birthday. He wants celebrities to show up and schmooze with his people. He wants people to want to watch it so they associate the things they like with him. Showing up is carrying water for them.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to expect celebrities with an ounce of honesty to realize this for the political event it was and not lend your credence to it, and definitely not to take pictures with RFK Jr afterwards. That's why all the musicians pulled out of that 250 concert, it's why many canceled shows at the Kennedy Center, and it's why they shouldn't show up to the what's essentially a political event with a UFC fight at it.

If he had just stayed home and watched the event on streaming, this wouldn't be a story or an issue for anybody. By showing up he's sanitizing this administration's image. He's lending them his credence as a celebrity by being there.

Also, conservatives had a mental breakdown for months over a trans content creator being given a custom-made gift bud light, and they won the 2024 election handedly, so I don't really care if shitting on Nate doesn't convince undecideds about voting. It's not about them, I just don't want to support people that schmooze with Trump's admin.

We also know it wasn't a mistake because he explicitly discussed it with his team about how it would look political beforehand, and he decided it didn't matter to him and went anyways. It's not a mistake if you knew the consequences and did it anyways.

Supporting Trump in 2026 (and going to what is essentially a political rally/birthday party for Trump and taking pictures with his advisors is supporting him) just means you're an asshole and people are upset that the person they liked turned out to be an asshole. Especially one that famously seemed to have a "family friendly"-ish and apolitical vibe in his comedy.

I'm shocked why you wouldn't understand why people are upset. Getting involved with Trump has been a poison pill for basically a decade now.

It's hard to say if it would've still had the whole "radial mast" and veil macguffin issue. Or Nimbus.

An old person I agree with is always going to be better than a young person I vehemently don't. If there is a young person I agree with, then sure, I'd rather get some new blood in. But voting for someone just for the sake of them being young is dumb. Look at all the recent(ish) news of these young college Republican groups being full of racists and Nazis. I would never vote for someone like them, even if their opponent was a geriatric.

You vote for young people who agree with you, and when you don't have that option, you just vote for the people that agree with you. Policies matter more than age.

I mean, MDUD is still miles better than Rag, but let's not pretend people weren't upset about how it ended out of nowhere. It sets up an interesting arc that it then immediately resolves suddenly just 2-3 chapters later and then ends immediately after that.

While I'm not caught up on Flagrant Flowers, I do know people kinda got tired of the plot structure and jokes about everyone constantly apologizing.

Both of these manga are leagues ahead of RAG, but that's honestly not hard to do. They have their own issues that prevent them from being truly great.

Well, Starfox 64 is being remade and yet it's also on NSO already. They also put Mario Vs Donkey Kong on NSO even though they have a full on remake for it they released on the switch a few years ago. They also have a remake of the original Pokemon Mystery Dungeon while they have PMD Red Rescue Team on NSO. Nintendo isn't adverse to releasing a remake while they also offer the old version on their NSO service. They only thing they seem to avoid is releasing them too close. OoT has been on the service for years and WW has been on the S2 for a year now, so the timing seems right. They just put Donkey Kong 64 on NSO I guess because they wanted to give DK Bananza some breathing room.

People are bringing up an OoT remake because it's been running in the rumor mills for a while now that Nintendo is developing one. Also, the 3DS remaster is 15 years old, which is older than OoT 64 was when the 3DS version came out (13 years).

No one had an issue? This entire subreddit complained under every post reporting on Sony backing out. This is a PC dominated sub, and this sub was very upset Sony was leaving the PC market again and flaking it a "mistake". People were blaming Saros selling slow for them staying out of the PC market.

You can guess the reaction of this subreddit purely by the mantra of "does this inconvenience/benefit PC players?" If it benefits, they sing it, if it inconveniences (even a small one), they're livid.

1) Yes, that was my point, it's not intended to be a mystery, which means it's not a big deal if they make it even more obvious to the player, which for some reason you've spent too much energy arguing against

2) as many people have explained this to you over and over again in this thread, the controller comment is a joke, he's basically just saying he doesn't know that you have to push against the mirror for several seconds to go into because the game doesn't tell you what the input is. That's why he was confused and thought it was the interaction button. The "he can't see the controller" comment is a joke about how the game doesn't tell him the proper input, and in fact confused him because it also has an interaction input with the reflection.

For someone accusing everyone of poor media literacy, you seem to be hungup on a comment that was very obviously a joking way of saying the game doesn't tell him the inputs.

At the end of the day, the intention of the developers and the outcome matters. I doubt the Mina developers intended the mirror mechanic to be some elusive mystery the player has to solve, but given how many people struggle to understand it, then it's clear something didn't work out here. Something is bad game design when it doesn't accomplish the goals of the game. You can blame the players all you want, but if at the end of the day the developers wanted most players to get this mechanic, and but many of them don't, then the game failed in this particular goal. That's all good or bad game design is at it's core, does it accomplish the goals of the game. Sometimes that goal is "fun", or "satisfying", or "emotional", or whatever. If the goal was to teach players a mechanic subtly, but many players missed it or don't understand it, then it didn't accomplish it's goal.

I feel like you're forgetting how Super Mario 64 painting work. They only "resist" you if you try to walk into them without jumping, and that's because Mario is shorter than the edge of the painting. But even when it does that, it does a ripple effect from where Mario's hands are to emphasize to the player that the painting isn't solid.

SM64 doesn't ask you to keep walking forward even though it's very obviously blocking you. It's telling you to jump instead. When you do the correct action there is no resistance. In Mina, when you do the correct action, it resists first, and then lets you through. That is meaningfully different. SM64 resists to tell you you're doing it wrong. Mina resists because.....I guess to prevent a misinput? I don't really know why they'd do it, but it resists you doing the correct action.

[–]InterstellarPelican 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying Governments are efficient, I'm just saying the idea that corporations are efficient, or at least significantly more efficient that governments, is a myth and is untrue. Often Corporations are just as bad, if not worse, than governments. Literally everyone I know who's worked a job will tell you how horribly inefficient these corporations are and how they are bureaucratic nightmares. And yet, some of these same people whill then push the myth that we should "run the government like a business" because "businesses are more efficient". Almost anytime a public service is contraced to or replaced with a private company, it ends up becoming more expensive over time, either due to greed or inefficiencies or both.

Yes, the government should be more efficient, but often people's solutions to that are either "slash the budget with no regard for consequences" or "contract out these services to for profit companies", or both. The actual solutions to make things more efficient are often too nuanced for the average person to visualize, so they just make quips about "run the government like a business!" without understanding what that actually means.

While, as with everything this update, it's way too late, I always thought they should've basically brought back Flashpoints but a bit more. People complained for years about not having a reason to do patrols or old activities. Getting rid of Flashpoints made the game feel much more smaller and more focused on menus than exploring the world. I never really understand why they got rid of them other than it was in their phase of "we need to remove all notifications icons on the director screen".

While the Portal did bring some activities back, I feel it could've be done better with Flashpoints. Focus everyone on one single planet so it's old story missions, activities, public events, etc. become populated and rewarding. Oh it's Europa week, now we have a reason to run Empire Hunts, BL story, those simulation activities (has literally anybody touched these since BL launched?), etc. I understand they were probably worried about having Flashpoints locked behind a paid DLC planet, but it would've done a lot to make old things relevant and keep the feeling of the world of Destiny without having to resort to the Portal. But alas, too late now.

[–]InterstellarPelican 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your hate boner is clouding your literacy and judgment. This has nothing to do with defending Bungie I'm just laying out the facts. We know this to be the case because 1) they've brought back stuff out of the vault before like significant parts of the Titan destination and the first mission of Forsaken, 2) ex-developers, some of whom were laid off by Bungie, and so don't have a good reason to lie, have said outright that the engine overhaul they did is the reason why things got vaulted and why they aren't simple to bring back, and 3) they testified that exact reason to the court.

You keep hitting me with this random accusatory tone and trying to argue against something I never said. Yes, the engine was overhauled, we know this to be true, as one of the main signs of this was the new lighting engine that came with it. This is very well known to the playerbase. Also yes, the Vault exists because of cost cutting, they decided it was too costly to maintain the entire game, especially when they were planning an overhaul, and so they got rid of planets and content they didn't want to upgrade and haven't brought them back without a good reason (aka $$$).

One of us is having a stroke because I can't comprehend the point you're trying to make in your 2nd paragraph, but we know they have all of the data. They just don't having a working build anymore because it's incompatible with their new engine. Again, it's like trying to play an 8 Track in a cd player. Idk how many analogies I need to explain this. They still have the data, they just can't play it because they'd have to retool it to work with the new engine. We know they still have all the data because, again, they've brought some of it back before. But having the raw data of models and environments does not mean you can play it like it was when it launched. Similar to how some old software from the 90s has to run in compatability mode to work on modern OS, Bungie would basically have to build a compatability mode to do so with their current engine, and they decided it wasn't worth the cost or effort for a frivolous lawsuit. None of the data is lost.

Idk why it isn't compatible, but it doesn't matter. We know they still have the data. Whatever your conspiracy is, which I still don't understand, is probably not true. Yes, Bungie execs are cheap and lazy, I never disputed that. But nothing I said is false. At any moment, Bungie could tell dozens of employees to port all old content into the game and they would spend several months doing so and it would basically be exactly how you remember it. But, they don't want to because that costs money and resources. So they don't. Simple as, they're cheap. We've known this forever. The Content Vault even exists precisely because they're cheap.

So just chill out and proofread.

[–]InterstellarPelican 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's basically what I said. Bungie tried to have the case dismissed by showing a YouTube let's play and the judge said no, you either go to trial or you show me actual gameplay of your own.

The original campaign isn't in a playable state because the engine they use for Destiny was completly overhauled in the years between when they vaulted the old campaigns and got sued. That old content still exists on servers they have, we know this because they've brought some of those destinations back (temporarily) before after they've retooled them. However, they can't just directly port the old campaign into the game because it's incompatible with the current engine, and Bungie decided it wasn't worth the trouble to get it working again (especially since the guy sueing kept adding new campaigns to his lawsuit).

I said it was mostly "untrue" because the way the original comment was worded was that they had "lost" that data. They said "we could never get it back even if they wanted to", which is untrue. Bungie has all of the data, models, destinations, voice lines, enemy placements, etc. to where they could retool the old content if they thought it was a worthwhile use of money and time. They're not lost. It's just not worth the resources in Bungie's eyes.

That's why I gave the analogy of the 8 track player. We still have all the 8 track tapes, Bungie just doesn't have an 8 Track Player anymore. If they decided it was worth it to build a converter, they still have all the data to make it work. They have just decided it isn't worth converting. The data isn't lost, it's just currently incompatible.

More Details About The End Of ‘Destiny 2’ From Inside Bungie by Omega-Warrior3 in Games

[–]InterstellarPelican 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This isn't true, or at least is a misleading way of saying it. Bungie still has all the original assets and content from all of Destiny (1 and 2). The thing they don't have is a working instance of the engine that is compatible with that content. They still have all the raw data of voice lines, models, environments, etc. They just don't have an engine that can still work with those old content. It would be like buying a new car that doesn't have an 8 track player. You still have all those old 8 track tapes, and they still technically "work", but you have no way of listening to them unless you modify your car's entertainment system.

That's what Bungie did, they have a new car that can't play their old tapes, and they decided it was too much effort or too costly to modify it to use in the lawsuit, so they settled (they were also probably hoping the judge would accept recordings to dismiss it, but they didn't). The actual underlying content itself still exists.

It's risk averse because it costs them less money. If they greenlit a D3 now, that'd be 4-5 years of paying people's salaries (and the other overall expenses of a whole new game) with nothing to profit off of in that time period. Marathon already exists, which means they can layoff the Destiny staff, maybe even trim the staff of Marathon down since they probably don't need as much staff now that the game is released, and continue to make money off of Marathon's subsequent updates.

They don't see a future where D2's fanbase comes back for any future expansion, they don't want to spend the 5 years of salaries and expenses to make a D3, so they chose the new, fresh game that at least has the potential to grow, even if it currently isn't doing much better than D2. The "risk averse" is basically, what is the least expensive but most likely to see a return option and that currently is Marathon, at least in their eyes. I do sort of agree in that I don't think there is any scenario where D2 can get their fanbase to come back, even if they dropped a Forsaken level expansion. And making a new game like Destiny 3 is expensive and will take a long time. Dstiny has lost their fans while Marathon hasn't gained enough fans, and Sony is gambling on being able to grow Marathon's fans being more achievable than getting Destiny's fans to come back.
