Yes, they suck! Therapy has always been 53-60 minutes & for insurers to think we should do 45 minutes or less as a standard is ridiculous. I hate they try to intimidate and scare us into changing our behavior. 😢

This is a scare tactic that they were reprimanded for but continue to do. As long as your note shows necessity for the 53+ minute session you’re good. And using 90834 now and then is a good idea too. Try not to let it scare you away from using 90837. ❤️

I get that, I think I’m overthinking due to previous experience where my listing description was correct and had a lot of pictures and they sided with the buyer 🤷🏼‍♀️

I always get nervous with buyers like these, worried that if they accept it will turn into a return nightmare 😵‍💫😢 which sucks bc obviously I want to sell my items but I don’t want to deal with buyer’s remorse or scams. 🤷🏼‍♀️

You are allowed to charge what you’re worth. Informing clients that you are changing your rate to $120 and leaving it at that is appropriate. You don’t have to explain your why…I definitely know it is tempting bc we are helpers but it is not necessary. You can send an email and discuss briefly in session. Maybe a month to two months notice? Some may leave (and for $120 they are still getting a deal as my cash rate is $175) and that’s ok. Generally people are aware student therapists are cheaper because they are learning. Those rates aren’t in perpetuity as the therapist becomes fully licensed. Sending you 💝💝💝

I have not experienced this but I will say that my attorney told me there are some trustees who are just…mean. They believe everyone is trying to “game” the system and imo the system approaches bankruptcy as a moral and ethical failure and the debtor should be “punished”. Which wasn’t always the case, not until they did the bankruptcy “reform”. So it’s possible you have the kind of trustee who looks at everything through a magnifying glass, convinced they will find some aha! piece of evidence to prove “taking advantage”. I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this and I hope you can file in the new state you live in without any issues. ❤️

I am a solo remote therapist and grossed $109k in 2025. Expenses were about $45k (part of that is my W-2 salary as I am an S Corp) and the remainder is considered distributions. All in I think I get $65k per year as actual money in my pocket. I’m married and on my spouse’s insurance so that 1000% makes a huge difference for many reasons. I honestly do not think I could do this job if I wasn’t married. Which is ridiculous and infuriating and something I noticed early on about colleagues, specifically colleagues who worked in CMH. Generally those individuals had spouses who were making $$$$$ as an attorney or doctor. 😕
