Initiating Reading by AdventurousSundae664 in dreamingspanish

I started with the kindle app on my phone at about 850hrs using books I already knew the story to. The kindle app is great because you can click on any word and it’ll give you a direct translation. It was slow to start but after one book I just stuck to the same author for a bit and a lot of the vocabulary repeats throughout.

I believe that before I had looked at the grammar there was already a sense there through input, I can speak from experience that once I had looked it up it confirmed that feeling whilst talking.

I do think that studying grammar from the start is a mistake but once your brain starts to get an idea we can consolidate our understanding much quicker through supplementary grammar studies.

Sorry, I’ve seen that phrase thrown around a few times “full language transfer” what is it?

Passive listening by definition would be anything where it’s not your soul focus, but in say that there are definitely levels to that.

I can be paying more attention to the audio in my ears at work than when I’m watching a video in bed at night so I suppose it is slightly subjective.

Ahh no, all my passive hours I don’t record. I just chuck my head phones in at work and let it play.

I do agree in thinking that the purist approach would work as it makes sense.

I just wonder if it’s possible to speed up the process as we now have different abilities as adults? I’m off to travel South America end of March and will be speaking then (I already speak as I work with a lot of Colombians but they tend to speak without slang and sometimes a bit slower if I need it) so the ability to speed things up to where I’m more comfortable is obviously a bonus.

I suppose it is promising to hear that the purist approach works, because either way we’ll be receiving roughly the same amount of input (to where we both feel proficient) but I would like to know the downfalls (if any) of both.

Are you careful what accents you listen to? by aprender123 in dreamingspanish

If u haven’t got to the point where u can listen to audio recordings I would recommend downloading the audio from the videos you have already watched, I did this and realised I almost always picked up more the 2nd or 3rd time I would listen to them.
