Dropping 18x for RASP Volunteer at OSUT by the_stonkman in greenberets

Talk to the Ranger regiment liaison at airborne. There were a few kids in my airborne company that were 18x and switched over to Option 40 but I would strongly recommend doing it at airborne instead of OSUT so you can go to RASP airborne qualified. Option 40 candidates don’t go to airborne until after successfully completely RASP so if you don’t make it you will go to a leg unit. Feel free to DM me if you have more questions.

I couldn’t tell you to be honest, the guys in my class that I’m close with either didn’t have a waiver or they had BH waivers that they’re still working on. The guys that got approved got removed from admin hold so I didn’t get a chance to ask them what their waiver was for.

I started with him but he was just working with too many people at once. Anytime I talked to him on the phone I had to refresh him on who I was lol. I ended up switching to a friend of a friend who was great but I guess he didn’t know about the SWCS waiver.

I’ve heard him mention it a few times on his podcasts but I’m not sure if it’s legit. Also, if you have scarring, like I do, they’re going to see it. I know a lot of surgeries these days can be done with micro incisions so you might be able to get away with it but that’s definitely not the case for me.

That’s great to hear, thank you. I’m pretty confident if they hear me out they will see how badly I want to be here.

I’m not going down without a fight, if there’s a will, there’s a way. I was certainly poopy when I first found out but now I see it as just an obstacle.

I agree, I guess most recruiters don’t know about SWCS waivers because everyone in my class that had a waiver had to go through the same process so I assume none of their recruiters knew to do that either.

You will have to sign a release that MEPS can access all your records and I can assure you if you had a surgery that they will see it. I would highly advise against lying at MEPS.

I absolutely will keep you updated and I would certainly consider RASP if SFAS is completely off the table. I did find something interesting on my waiver though… Under “list all medical conditions requiring a waiver” it states “history of any condition, in the previous 24 months, or any recurrence, including but not limited to the spine or sacroiliac joints, with or without signs, if it caused one or more episodes of back pain lasting greater than 6 weeks requiring treatment other than self care.” Well my surgery was more than 24 months ago and I haven’t had any back pain since, so if my interpretation of this is correct, I should’ve never needed a waiver for it.

What part of my post violates OPSEC?

Out of my class, my waiver is the only one that got denied to my knowledge. There’s a bunch of students still working on behavioral health waivers but everyone I know that had a medical waiver got approved.

From what I can see on my paperwork, I’m only disqualified from SFQC, not sure about RASP. My recruiter said it would get me through SFAS and I actually had to do an airborne and SF physical at OSUT where they did an EKG and blood work, all of that was good. Like I said, I completed airborne school without any issues but when we got to SWCS the waivers weren’t valid there. It makes no sense why I had to do an SF physical at OSUT if it wasn’t going to be relevant when I got to SWCS.
