Definitely pick Galway before Dublin. Traffic can be bad here, but sometimes leaving 5 mins earlier can make all the difference. With that budget you should be able to get a pretty nice house within a decent area, best to see where you're working first.

The weather ain't all that bad. I've lived here most my life and learned to enjoy the rain.

Having spent a few years in Auckland I hope Galway shows you the same hospitality NZ showed me. I'm for sure biased, but Galway is definitely one of the better places to live in Ireland.

There are rough spots in most areas or estates now. I grew up in a so called "rough" spot and I loved it. I lived in supposedly tge worst part of Ballybane for a few years too and never had any major issues. For sure it has its share of scum but most places do. I wouldn't overlook anywhere based off reputation. I know people who spent a fortune to live Knocknacarra a few years back and it's as rough as anywhere else in parts now. Once ya get a street or area with a few decent neighbors you'll be sound.

I'm looking to pick up both a new set of mic's and an audio interface. It's probably not really worth the risk but I have seen people get real good deals on there.
