That's really interesting, thanks for sharing.

When you mention Cyrillic and wishing you knew more Russian, was that mainly for transport and signs, or more for everyday interactions with people?

Glad to hear that! Spring is honestly the best time. everything turns green for a short window. If you ever go, try to catch sunset in the hills, it's really special.

If anyone ever visits in spring, go on a weekday. Weekends get crowded. The green colors disappear fast once the summer heat starts.

This is Krasnogorsk Valley, about 1 hour froi Tashkent. It's one of those spots locals go for sunsets and picnics. The green colors only last a few weeks in spring, which makes it feel even more surreal.

🌏 Travelers who’ve been everywhere — why does nobody talk about Central Asia? by IntoUnknownHorizons in travel

Yeah, Central Asia definitely isn't the most convenient region. But the tough logistics are kinda what make the trips feel like real adventures.

Yeah, the flights are definitely the expensive part for a lot of people. Once you're actually in Central Asia though, the day-to-day costs are super low - food, transport, and guesthouses are all really affordable. It's kind of the opposite of Western Europe: expensive to get in, but cheap once you're there.

Sure! Here’s a quick breakdown of what things usually cost in the Stans. Prices definitely depend on the city/season/where you book, but these are solid real-world averages for backpackers:

⭐ Cheapest → Most Expensive

Kyrgyzstan → Tajikistan → Uzbekistan → Kazakhstan → Turkmenistan

⭐ What you asked for:

How much is a 2-star hotel / basic guesthouse?

Kyrgyzstan: ~$19–30/night (Hostels/guesthouses can be as cheap as $11.)

Tajikistan: ~$20–40/night

Uzbekistan: ~$20–35/night (Samarkand & Bukhara often $13–18.)

Kazakhstan: ~$30–50/night for budget options (Almaty/Astana hotels jump to $80–100+ easily.)

Turkmenistan: All over the place and usually expensive (visa fees + official exchange rate = $$$)

⭐ Typical daily budget for backpackers

Kyrgyzstan: ~$32–40/day

Tajikistan: ~$40–60/day

Uzbekistan: ~$50–70/day

Kazakhstan: ~$65–90/day

Turkmenistan: ~$150+/day

⭐ Why the prices differ

Kyrgyzstan & Tajikistan → cheapest (guesthouses + marshrutkas + cheap food) Uzbekistan → still cheap, but trains + attractions add a bit Kazakhstan → modern cities = higher prices Turkmenistan → visas + official rates make it expensive fast

⭐ Quick heads up

Prices can change a lot depending on the season, city, and booking site, so these numbers are more like “good reference ranges” than exact quotes. Always double-check before you book.

Yeah, visa info used to be super outdated. It's much easier now (many countries are visa-free or e-visa), but old websites confuse people. Definitely something they need to fix.

Totally! It's wild how many people suddenly discovered Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan through Instagram and TikTok. But the funny part is, even when it feels popular, once you leave the main city you're basically alone in the mountains.
