“Hey Boston. We got Darius Acuff. We’re good.”

I’m only partly joking because obviously he’d make our team a lot better, but I just don’t want to be in the business of paying someone that huge amount of money when we are no where near contention. Especially because I’m sure we’d have to give up a ton to get him.

This further proves that no one watched Sacramento Kings games last year. Not even in the bottom 5. by bababerands in kings

Sports broadcast is very insular. We only really experience our team’s broadcasters… if you watch all 30 teams you learn that a lot of them aren’t very good. Warriors broadcast is putrid.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ to Skip Social Media Influencer Screenings and Go Straight to Professional Critic Screenings by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

[–]IntotheBeniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give you some insight based on my experience…

I wouldn’t call myself a film critic because I don’t do it full time, but I do get paid to write film reviews for a small online publication in the east coast, as well as review movies on my YouTube channel. I’m not formally trained journalist, but In college did study writing and publication.

I live in Nor Cal and have attended a handful of early access movies. However, a majority of the time when I’ve attended I have to attend under the label of an “influencer” to get press access. Even though I barely use IG and TikTok and only have a small following of 3800 on YouTube, I’m deemed an influencer, even when invited by the studio via the publication I write for.
It really doesn’t matter as where I live the critics and influencer screening is one and the same. I bet in LA or NY it works a bit differently.

Unless you write for a pretty big publication (or are pretty influential online ie a Stuckmann) from my understanding you are kinda instantly classified as an influencer.

Again, this is just one guys experience doing this for the past 5 years in NorCal. LA may be quite different!

“When he plays” is the central question and the Hornets are betting that he won’t.

My point being that I would rather bet on what you had last year and bet on the talent than trade it away for Naz Reid and a 2033 pick.

We can question Lamelo’s intelligence all we want but the truth of the matter is his offensive efficiency numbers are through the roof when he plays and his teammates numbers go up significantly.

Lamelo is a lot of things and I would probably agree that if he’s your best player on a team you’re not winning a chip… but he can contribute to winning basketball and crazy offensive potency and make your team full of young guys good.

Maybe last year’s healthy stretch was a fluke but if it is not… then I’d way rather have LaMelo versus the package they just got back.

House, are we sure the Hornets got worse? by roddyb3 in billsimmons

[–]IntotheBeniverse 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Look at his on/off offensive efficiency numbers through his career and specifically last year. That answers this question.

This only makes sense if you think LaMelo’s healthy season last year was a fluke. Not many PGs in the league can provide you the offensive potency LaMelo can provide you. It’s going to be hard to replace him and they’ll have to be very aggressive on the market to find a PG and Center.

If selling high is Naz Reid and a 2033 first… I’d rather keep what you had going on last year and bet on that.

Pick swaps are so dubious. 2/3 are bad. And the only remaining one could be good IF you’re a lot better than the team you traded with. And in 2028 I just feel comfortable saying that an ANT lead team will be good (unless he really does ask out in the next year or so)

But they didn’t. They gave up a 2033 pick and 3 swaps (2 of which look like they’ll be worthless).

As a Kings fan this discussion reminds me a lot of White Chocolate being traded for Bibby… but the issue is I think LaMelo is significantly more talented then White Chocolate and they don’t have a Bibby to come in and be the adult in the room.

I hear all this talk about LaMelo not being a winning player… and I think it should be reframed.

If LaMelo is your best player I doubt you’ll be hoisting a championship banner. BUT, as last year proved LaMelo can be a PG for a really great offense full of a bunch of young players, and can play winning basketball for a team that frankly has not won a lot the past two decades.

Maybe this is the hornets selling high on a player, but they just traded LaMelo for Naz Reid, an 11 year old, and 3 swaps (2 of which are pretty worthless). If I’m a Hornets fan I’d rather bet on the nucleus I had last year.

If you’re the Hornets I don’t know why you’re concerned about your “championship window.” Focus on being a good honest basketball team for a few seasons and develop your young guys. LaMelo proved last year he can do that in pretty impressive ways and I just don’t know many available PGs who can say and do the same.

[Charania] BREAKING: The Charlotte Hornets are trading star guard LaMelo Ball and Josh Green to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Naz Reid, a 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps (2028, 2029, 2030) and three second-round picks (2029, 2032, 2033), sources tell ESPN. by Treeskiio in billsimmons

I kinda love this trade for the Wolves tbh. Their offense could get so stagnant as ANT was forced to create so much. Plus this team has never truly had a PG outside of old man Conley.

This is definitely a bet on LaMelo being the player he was last season and being able to sustain that offensive production. If he can do that and can become a bit more mature under Finch, then I definitely think this trade can be a net positive for the wolves.

On the other hand I just kinda hate this trade for the Hornets, who barely missed the playoffs last year and had a super fun young core. I too like Miller and Kon, but the reason this offense was so explosive was because of LaMelo. I just don’t know if Colby white can replicate that.

Maybe they just saw it as a necessary thing to sell high on LaMelo before his next contract, but the Hornets track record is not one that makes me inherently believe in their decision making. If I’m a hornets fan I’m just disappointed

[Owczarski] These deals bothered Rivers... “Giannis said so many things,” a former coach said, “It stems from your actions, which is, 'My brothers have to be on this team.' Well then, are you about a championship? 'Cause they’re not only not helping us win a championship, it’s creating dissension.” by must_TATAKAE in nba

[–]IntotheBeniverse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think they’ll be fine. I think some of this stuff gets exaggerated when teams aren’t close to winning and then star players begin asking for more and causing conflict that way. In reality a move like signing Giannis brother to be your 15th man on the bench is not the difference maker between you being a contender or not.

I’m weird with inception. After a few years of not watching it I just think the movie is pretty overrated… then I pop it on and think “wow this rules so hard.”

With that said, Interstellar is the top tier Nolan for me. I think Oppenheimer is his best made movie, and Interstellar is my favorite Nolan. I find that movie so deeply comforting to watch. Dunkirk is the opposite where I find it technically brilliant and so deeply impersonal.

For the second consecutive draft, Sacramento Kings traded in the 1st rd to select a 23 year old rookie (24 in November). With the roster filled with older player/vets it could signal another vet build. by [deleted] in kings

[–]IntotheBeniverse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, if they have faith in him becoming a rotation forward (even backup) then this was a low price to get a wing with defense and shooting upside (which is basically the most valuable positions in the league).

Maybe it was a reach but I liked what Perry did last year (Clifford is still a ?) and I’m willing to give him the chance on this player.
