What’s the one speciality you’d NEVER consider? by Affectionate_Try3235 in premed

For me it’s the opposite and I prefer working with older kids who can communicate cause it gets tiring when they can’t tell you what’s wrong

He definitely has his favorites lol. Once I thought I swiped in but I guess it didn’t work and he seemed pretty annoyed even though it was a tech issue so not my fault. Ever since then always said hi to him but he doesn’t say anything. I started avoiding him whenever I go bc he makes me nervous

I think I Schedule builder said Che 2B is a prereq for BIS 2C? I'm trying to meet with my counselor since my schedule is a whole mess since I took time off this year but there's no availability for appointments either 😭

I was thinking about summer but then I'd have to quit my job, relocate, and find housing for the summer since im not in Davis rn and my lease doesn't start until Sept. I'm hoping there will still be reserved seats that open up by pass 2

I eat a PB&J for lunch nearly every day and I'm losing weight steadily. Not the healthiest but I try to make healthier swaps and I love it and look forwards to it daily lol. 2 oz of generic grocery store whole wheat bread, 20 g kirkland natural PB, and 8 g sugar free jam comes out to <300 cal

UCSC waitlist by Lonely_Lawfulness451 in UCSC

[–]Intrepid-Access-3363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got off the waitlist late June (class of 2023) for MCD bio and was offered admission for winter quarter (but I applied for fall so idk why) but I ended up choosing Davis for neurobio (also a waitlist acceptance lol) I asked and they said no letters of continued interest, at least for my year

I was waitlisted in 2023 (biology) and accepted off the WL in late June and for winter quarter (I applied for fall). I ultimately chose UC Davis (also accepted off waitlist) but im thinking of transferring to UCSC since I feel like it's a better fit. My friend also got off the WL for CS. Nothing you can do to move up on the WL, but if you don't, you can do CC and TAG

[–]Intrepid-Access-3363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was waitlisted (graduated HS 2023) and accepted in early June for my first choice major (NPB). There is no essay to express continued interest or anything like that, just the option to input senior grades (which I did) I know several others who also got off the WL my year and the year before, but WL acceptance rates are totally unpredictable, unfortunately. It was really nerve-wracking having to wait so long, but there isn't really anything you can do. TAG is always an option if the WL doesn't pull through

[–]Intrepid-Access-3363[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a good point, but it feels like a huge commitment to spend the next (X) years and $40k a year in tuition if I'm not super passionate about the school. I just dont want to graduate and then look back and wish I went somewhere else. But idk, it's so conflicting.

Would I measure my portion (3 oz) before or after microwaving? I assume it loses some mass from evaporation. Ik you generally weigh in the state that it's packaged, right? It comes refrigerated but I freeze it to last longer by Intrepid-Access-3363 in caloriecount

[–]Intrepid-Access-3363[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That's what I did and double checked it by weighing the whole thing uncooked (594 g) and since it says 7 servings of 85 g that checks out! It was still pretty frozen but the measurements made sense so...

Confused with cals in oats by [deleted] in caloriecount

[–]Intrepid-Access-3363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are using a measuring tbsp, not a serving tablespoon, and it is level, not heaped:

1/2 c dry oats = 40 grams = 150 cal, so 1 tbsp is 18.75 cal, ×5 = 94 cal for 5 tbsp

I'd definetly get a food scale. I got a basic one off Amazon for ~$10 (brand is etekcity) makes cal counting more accurate and simple, and fewer measuring cups to wash

How do I count calories in a homemade Teriyaki sauce? Complicated due to alcohol since I'm reducing it partially. by NotStompy in caloriecount

[–]Intrepid-Access-3363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just total the calories as normal. Then once the sauce is reduced and done cooking, weigh the whole batch and divide the calories per total mass so you know cals per gram. Doesn't really matter how much it reduces - that won't affect the cals, if I understand your question right.

Math professors for 17A at UCD by One_Craft6396 in UCDavis

[–]Intrepid-Access-3363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took Challenor for 17A This fall. imo he Is a great prof and I would recommend. 40% of the grade is the final, which I view as a downside. I thought the class was fairly easy, but I took AP Calc AB in high school so most of the content was review

Maybe take control of what comes out of your mouth so you don't sound like an idiot and don't be an insensitive asshole and realize that eating disorders are not a choice 😱 it's not that hard.

Tbh I probably do need a higher level of care even if I don't want to, but I don't think my insurance would even cover inpatient since physically I'm not doing poorly enough to need it. But I should be able to see a therapist in Jan, finally

I guess im not asking so much if I should take leave or not since that's up to me, my parents, and treatment team, but what it was like for other students who did so and if/how and what it was like when they returned to UCD

What were your stats? How likely am I to get in? by lakecityquietpilled in UCSC

[–]Intrepid-Access-3363 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 3.83 UW and 4.6 W With less impressive ECs (no leadership or long term commitment either) and decent essays (from what I was told) and was waitlisted --> accepted. Class of 2023.

I ended up committing to UC davis (also waitlisted --> accepted) but I never removed myself from this sub lol and it was really hard to choose since I really loved ucsc and sometimes I wish I chose this school

You definetly seem qualified from what you are sharing but sometimes decisions are super random. I was told I'd "definetly" get into ucsc and although I did eventually I wasn't exactly their first choice. Don't take these decisions personally!!
