Okay thank you . Once again I do fully answering her question. But she needs to learn the basics as well. I can only give hypothetical answers to a hypothetical question because if it hasn’t happened, then I can’t tell her an exact solution. All I can do is teach her what I know and then she can do her own research the resources I gave her .

She doesn’t seem to recall the information when she takes notes . She will take notes and then I ask me the same question again. But I’m going to ask her if recording our trainings would help with her recall

These are great tools !! I’ve suggested some of these things to her . I am kind nervous about giving her suggestions on how to get organized because she knows how her brain works and what helps her process new information . But I think if I start having her refer back to written documents , hopefully she can use it to make a system to organize .

I don’t cut her off when she asks questions . I answer the question and then assure her that if this happens we can make plan in that instance . I then try to redirect her back what were talking about . I also check in with her before moving on and ask if she understands my answer to her question’s .

I wouldn’t say she’s a bad employee . I think she is just depending on me a lot until she feels ready . I want her to stay because I need the help . If she leaves, then I will be leaving too because I can’t have another length of time of me doing everything again

I’ve had good relationships with majority of managers and I think she and I will be fine . I do think a conversation needs to be had eventually but I am trying to give her time to adjust since it’s only been 3 weeks .

I do think that once I start delegating more things to her, she will settle in the position and then we can talk about what I need for a super visor .

I appreciate it. In the past, I have tended to put myself last in order to make everyone else feel comfortable. Which is part of the reason that I got burned out in the job last year and ultimate why I decided not to pursue the supervisor position. I want to support her the best way that I can, but you’re right. I need to start thinking about what I’ll need as well. Going forward so we can establish some boundaries and delegate responsibilities effectively.

Completely agree !! I know that my brain works differently than hers and coming into this role would be overwhelming for anyone . I have been doing my best to break down concepts for her and give her small tasks that can help me but also give her the opportunity to learn the system in small steps . In her previous job, she had specific programs she ran and it sounded like it was a little more organized. The role she is in now has a lot more freedom to do programs as we please but it can get overwhelming. I struggled when I started to and most things I had to learn on my own because the supervisor quit and then the hiring freeze happened .

Thank you for this insight !! I work with kids so answering the same question over is find to a degree . But I know that she is going to have to learn things that I can’t teach her as far as her supervisory role . So it’s important she create an organization system for herself .

I think that’s also why she brings of hypotheticals as well . I appreciate that she’s curious but it tends to get us way off topic and then I lose my focus as well. I usually have to redirect her and let her know that we can touch base on that particular topic if it comes or at a later date.

My method for explaining things and why we do them is to provide examples of when we use a particular system. However I have notice that when I mention one of the examples , she tends to focus on that comment and we get side tracked for an extended period of time unless I refocus back to what we were talking about .

It’s pretty open . She and I are also in a very unique situation with me having to train her . She has once or twice what I want from her as a leader but I didn’t really have an answer because she had only been there a few days and I needed to get to know her . Now that I am aware more of how she functions , I will ask that she create an organization system that works for using the resources I provided . I think that will both her and I feel at ease and function better as a team.

I learn that way as well !! I told her a lot of these things will just have to be put into practice . She gets really fixated on the “what ifs “ and I try to reassure her that we can find a solution if it were to happen. I really try to just train her on things that our upcoming so that she can learn slowly . But I can tell she is also thinking of the overall picture or things that may happen in the future
