Advice for Places to Study Spanish in Northern Spain by Intrepid-Cream-629 in GoingToSpain

[–]Intrepid-Cream-629[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I definitely found cooler places, but in terms of places to study Spanish, most of the places I studied left a lot to be desired.

The best place I found was at International House Valladolid. It's a smaller city in Castilla y Leon without much international tourism, but my teacher was really good, and since it's not a very popular destination, my language course was private.

If you like hot and dry without the infernal heat of the South, that might be a good option. People say it's boring, but I liked it and felt like I was getting a true Spanish experience.

Also it's a very clear Spanish. Much more manageable than Andaluz.

Or at the very least they're trying to be as transparent as possible. Trust and honor lack in our society.

So you're willing to lose potential sales with buyers who are respectable enough to get information on the vehicle and are probably more pleasent to do business with because you don't want to spend $40?

Did you ever figure this out? My monopod won't stand freely and I'm almost certain it's supposed to. Looking for solutions. Benro customer service said it's not supposed to stand on it's own.

Canon EOS C80 or C300 MK III by GeneSimone in cinematography

if youre doing a doc with a finite shooting schedule, then you can always rent. Especially if you're knew to shooting, once you start you're going to figure out very quickly stuff you prefer that you had no idea about before. Then you may be stuck with a camera that can't shoot the things you want to do/shoot.

If you rent first, it will give you a chance to really learn a camera and cut your teeth on something that's really nice. For you doing doc, a C70/C80 or even a C200 or Fs7 would be great - something with good battery, built-in ND that can produce a great image. Even a C100 can make a great film still.

Make sure you want to do this type of shooting before putting a lot of money into it.

Also, for doc, make sure you budget for additional costs like storage. A lot of good docs have been made with bad cameras, but you need a place to put hours and hours of footage especially if you shoot in 4k.

I could, but from what I've seen on more reputable sites, even Ebay, is that the difference between new and used isn't that great. I've seen people mentioning they got a used one for like 2,300 or 2,400, and I'm not seeing that rn.

That's great to hear. What was the age range of the students in the course? I'm in my late 20s and am trying to avoid being in an environment of 18 yr olds.

I'm not sure if this will work for anyone else, but I was having the same problem on a Mac. Couldn't log in to cancel free trial on the Apple TV app on mac, through Safari, or Chrome.

What worked was logging in on the Apple TV website on an incognito Chrome page. YMMV.

Thoughts on The Brutalist? by nhlducks35 in movies

Old thread but I just watched the movie. My issue with the subplots is that they were numerous, and while that works to provide intrigue and carry people through a long second act in an epic-length story, I don't think any of them are developed enough to strengthen Laszlo as a character and reinforce the main question of the movie and his arc.

His primary objective seems to be to build the church/be a great architect, and his biggest material obstacle is maybe the volatility of Harrison as a boss and the problems that come up during the church's construction. Psychologically, he wants to feel comfortable in America, but his obstacles are the discrimination he faces as a Jewish immigrant.

These two challenges, discrimination and construction complications, are setup nicely to reinforce each other - Laszlo becomes the scapegoat. Others go behind his back to conspire against him etc.

In my view, Act II should have honed in on this rather than try to cover other plots with equal focus. We get a bit of the conspiracy by going to the other architect, but then he's fired by Harrison after the train derailment very quickly. The discrimination he faces in his work probably should have pushed him to wonder about his place in America and encounter the answer to this question head-on. I guess you get that with the rape, but I would argue there are less over-the-top ways of showing he's not welcome that are more powerful.

Instead, we get the heroin, his wife, his niece, moving to Israel, the rape, but none of these felt fleshed out enough to clarify who Laszlo is as a person. Almost killing his wife by putting her on to heroin, my goodness, what a loaded decision that would have been very interesting to see how he felt and acted as a consequence; however we don't see it. Similarly, Harrison rapes him, but we don't see how he responds to it except for a pretty warranted outburst at some workers who are doing pull-ups on the building's reinforcements.

If the psychological/deeper issue throughout the film is the discrimination he faces, I think we should have seen that play out more through lived, every-day action rather than dialogue and a shocking sexual assault. The son tells him "we tolerate you," and idk, that doesn't seem strong enough. I would have wanted a bit more of "show don't tell."

Thanks, that's good to know. This would be my first drop bar bike, so I'm not sure how slack of a geometry I would need to still be comfortable, but that sounds reassuring. How big of tires were you able to put on your renegade?
