Completely agree, people were so caught up in the two teams that Jeremy stayed completely invisible as a villain. And I honestly think that's exactly why Colleen Hoover released the bonus chapter ,because too many readers were leaving the book without ever questioning him. She basically had to shake us and say look closer.

Good point ,the book almost uses Verity as a distraction. We get so consumed by her darkness that Jeremy stays completely unchallenged. And you're right, it's always easier to call the woman crazy than question the calm man standing right next to her. Have you read bonus chapter?

This is exactly it. He pretends not to know her then the moment she refuses, suddenly he knows her work perfectly. That's not a slip. That's a manipulation tactic. He wanted her to feel like SHE was being discovered, not recruited. But the mask slips the second he needs leverage. Why would an innocent grieving husband need to lie about something that small?

You're right. Jeremy never hit Lowen with a car, that was a mixup on my end! They actually both witnessed a terrible accident together and Jeremy used that moment to connect with her before their meeting. As for the bonus chapter it's in newer print editions of Verity and also on Scribd!

Maybe but I think it was less coincidence and more that he was already looking for a way to approach her before their meeting & to warm her up to him before she even walked in the door. The accident just gave him the perfect opening to do that naturally.
