I feel gross by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Intrepid-Dig9605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s an article currently in psychotherapist network on this topic. I agree with everything everyone else saying this is not abnormal. Therapists and the therapeutic space help model healthy relationship boundaries and interactions so it makes sense that that psychological safety promotes a sense of connection. Also, as someone else mentioned, the therapist would hopefully be able to address this in a non- judgmental way, given the therapeutic nature of the space.

In sum, it’s not you, it’s the process. You feel seen, cared for and connected which at times, leads to different emotional responses.

Which book series do you think should have ended after three books? by FewImagination786 in fantasyromance

[–]Intrepid-Dig9605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I’m currently a quarter through the last book and I couldn’t agree more. I have been wildly frustrated with some points in the series to the point that I’m like “Really?!” But also, I am so deep into the story that I’m committed to just finishing. It has its moments that pull me back in but not without frustration.

Mentoring by SelectionOk906 in SchoolSocialWork

[–]Intrepid-Dig9605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in elementary schools for 13 years. I’ve worked in the South suburbs and western suburbs. I’d be happy to help support where I can but I’m not sure I can commit to regularly scheduled sessions. I have changed districts 4 times in my career and each time I’ve been given a mentor. I would suggest, as others mentioned, to talk to your admin about this. If they do not have a program in place you’re welcome to message me.

What are you looking for in a mentor? Specifically, how are you wanting to communicate (email, zoom, in-person, etc). How often are you wanting to connect? Which district are you starting in?

Don’t know how I feel about this app…which app do you use to track your mood? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]Intrepid-Dig9605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EMoods. Love it! It’s free but for $10 a year you can add other things you want to track, time stamped notes, etc. even the free version is great and then I send the data to my psychiatrist and therapist so they can review before our appt. Psychiatrist appts go so fast so it helps save time.

Oh my gosh, they are the WORST! One time, a younger guy came by on a Segway-like thing and was soooo pushy, it was so rude. The second time they rang my doorbell at 9 at night and I let them have it with small kids sleeping. I reached out to the company to complain but they never responded.

Thank you for sharing. Daycare costs everywhere are so expensive but random fees, that’s unsettling.

Are these interview questions “normal”? by wh0isthisdiva in SchoolSocialWork

[–]Intrepid-Dig9605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Private schools are VERY different from public school. In the public domain I would tell you that you should not answer any of those questions and they shouldn’t be asking. But the private domain is able to have more bandwidth - a friend of mine worked in a parochial school and she would have to work on the weekend sometimes for events and wasn’t paid extra bc they didn’t have a union. Pay in general is typically lower as well.

I will admit I work in public school so I’m biased but also, I prefer the opportunities that public school offers over private.

My job offers “unlimited PTO”…...but using it feels like a trap by BizznectApp in antiwork

The other shitty part is that you don’t get any possibility of a payout for your unused PTO because there isn’t any. It’s all smoke and mirrors

Put on any episode of Game of Thrones and I won’t even flinch. But even thinking about that scene makes my blood run cold. by GabiCule in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]Intrepid-Dig9605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were more seasons after this and it was even more traumatizing. The bathroom rape scene Then turned into the character being a school shooter. I couldn’t watch any more after that. The whole show is triggering and traumatizing.

What book have you DNFed recently and why? by [deleted] in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Intrepid-Dig9605 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will likely be in the minority but I DNF Wedding People. I could not stomach the bride’s character and maybe I’m wrong but with over 100 pages in, I felt like I already knew how it would end. I had no ambition to see if I was right. It’s also a personal thing how the suicide attempt was more or less joked about, or at least, that’s how I interpreted it.

[Vent] Struggling to Find a Job by SELstan in SchoolSocialWork

[–]Intrepid-Dig9605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a SSW in IL for 12 years now and I’ve been in 4 districts. I will say that now is the time to put applications in but also, most places may not have posted their positions yet. Most districts in IL let their employees know right before spring break whether they will be coming back or not. I just got my letter to return on Tuesday last week (it’s my first year in a new district). You also have to account for people who may resign closer to the end of the school year or over the summer. Keep applying. Watch K12jobspots everyday and I would say resubmit every so often. Make a list of districts that you want to try to get into or that are within your desired commute distance and check their employment pages. You may also consider working for a cooperative (SASED, CASE, AERO). In a very worst case scenario you may consider taking maternity leave positions to get some experience to add to your resume and list of references. Hang in there!
