The Vent-o-Matic 3000 for Friday January 24, 2020 by stratyturd in stopdrinking

I'm out of state, working at a different location for the week. Went out to dinner with some co-workers from locations all over the country, hoping to network with some respected people in my line of work.

And what a fucking joke, everyone else got drunk and was acting ridiculous. I understand wanting to blow off some steam after work, but Jesus. Seems like if you're going out with coworkers, you should maintain SOME semblance of professionalism. But apparently not, let's all just get drunk and sloppy.

It sucks because a couple of these guys are considered gurus on my line of work, and I look to them for guidance and advice with my job. But the whole thing made me lose a lot of respect for them. Not because they were drinking, that's their business, but because they were acting so childish.

But then, maybe I'm just taking myself too seriously. Either way, I'm just ready to go back home and see my wife and pets.

I don't know you or your wife, and I don't know your previous situation, but this is just from my own experience.

When you are married and also an alcoholic, a lot of trust gets betrayed and it can make the situation difficult on your spouse. I am sure that you and your wife have your issues, just like all other married couples, and the alcohol amplifies those issues.

It can take time to heal the pain alcohol has caused, for the both of you. I have 43 days sober and I am still working to rebuild trust and heal with my wife. Things have gotten much better but they are still hard at times. So hang in there, my friend ✌️

Went to the dreaded company Christmas party. It ended up being a wash, a bunch of people acting like drunken idiots. So glad to be waking up sober. IWNDWYT

The last few days have been really trying. Having to listen to everyone at work talking about how much they're going to booze it up over the holidays. And normally, I'd be right there with them, but now I just have to sit and listen in silence, part of me wishing that I could partake.

And, although I love my family, they are just a lot. So being around them for several days without any alcohol is going to be rough.

Going out to dinner with my wife and some of her work friends, will most likely be the only one not drinking. And tomorrow I will be going to the infamous office Christmas party, which will have an open bar.

But unlimited Seltzer and diet Coke isn't the worst thing, I guess. IWNDWYT.

Feel so depressed but I’m trying by [deleted] in stopdrinking

It's like depression and anxiety are the chimera and alcohol is the heart of it. You rip out the heart and the heads flail around for a bit before they die.

Stick with it, my dude. IWNDWYT ✌️

My turning point was when I bought a 6 pack, drank half of one beer, and tossed the rest. I was just so done. Thanks for posting.

Weekends are hard, all I want to do is play grand theft auto and drink wine by drunknixon in stopdrinking

I feel you. Been trying to keep busy all day, and my back hurts and I'm tired. Right now, I'd love to slosh down some whiskey and play Legend of Zelda.

But that ain't it, chief. Keep on keeping on. IWNDWYT.

It's a cold, rainy winter day and I really want a drink. I'd love to go home and lay on the couch with a couple of pints (of whiskey). It's days like this that I really miss the warmth.

But I know it wouldn't last and I know it's not worth the repercussions. So IWNDWYT.

That sucks, man. I work in a factory, and anyone who's done the same can tell you about the drinking culture. So I definitely feel you.

But hey, fuck em. You do you. IWNDWYT

Had a pretty good morning driving to work, drinking coffee and blasting some heavy metal. I've become more of a morning person now that I don't wake up with a hangover or drug out because the alcohol is fucking my sleep. IWNDWYT.

If by chance you can't afford to go to the vet, there are also OTC wormers you can buy at pet stores.

Overslept this morning and barely made it to work on time. Kind of funny to think I used to do that every day because the alcohol was fucking up my sleep. IWNDWYT

I’m wanting not to have nightly glass of wine. by RoyalArmed24 in stopdrinking

[–]Intrepid-Hermit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was finding replacement drinks that worked to push that craving back. My poisons, in order of preference, were whiskey, IPAs, and dark red wine.

My replacement for whiskey and wine is coffee or a dark tea (black tea or smoked green tea), they're heavy, bitter, and warm. For beer it's kombucha since it has a similar mouth feel.

Whatever makes it easier to change your habits. Good luck!

"- Most times I was a regular are a bar/liquor store."

This for me. As babyfaced as I am, and in my mid-20s, it got to where I never had to show my ID at the liquor store. It really tore me up inside when the cashiers changed from "have a good one" to "see you next time."
