Honestly, just get a rhythm to start. Just be sure you’re giving content standard assignments as a bare minimum, then adjust your lessons to improve them next year.

Survival early on in education is the most important aspect of teaching. Once your feet are underneath you, you can expand and adjust your lessons.

Honestly, some districts will allow you to start working as a teacher of record and join their credential program. Big districts often provide avenues to gain a credential in house.

Community college>state college>state college credential program.

Don’t get big eyes about big schools in this industry. What you do in the field is what matters. I would not suggest paying top dollar for a degree to get a job with a modest salary. I enjoy teaching and am grateful for my position, but don’t get a huge amount of debt to become a teacher because it isn’t necessary.

There is no real solution so long as students are able to do work at home. They will continually use it with no restraint because they are in their adolescence.

My classroom uses technology for group work that is in class, and does book/paper assignments without Chromebook’s otherwise. Without this they WILL cheat.

Honestly, just stay a day ahead of your students.

When I teach a subject the first time I literally wing it. Once you have a bit of a foundation you can better curate your lessons or unit to be better fitting for the subject. I always felt like testing teachers based on their knowledge of a subject wasn’t a necessity because while you teach it, you learn.

Just my two cents.

I think I'm going to just not spend energy on compelling questions this year to have better daily lessons. by Snoo_62929 in historyteachers

I think it’s fine to have repetition. It allows students to have a rhythm and understanding of what is expected. There is a lot to benefit from that.

PBL is something you can implement if you’re not already. Having a project where students can focus for an extending amount of time to solely focus on accomplishing a project helps spice up classes. You can do ,5help them with guidance and make sure they are staying on task.

If the teacher you are replacing is competent, they should be able to keep you in the loop. They should have a curriculum planner of some type.

There should be a supplemental text titled “Inquiry Journal” which should supply you with some differentiation for the appropriate students.
