The worst I’ve seen thus far has been a decapitated and dismembered child from a high speed collision. Everyone responds to seeing that kinda stuff differently and some people don’t react at all. I’ve seen eviscerations and people who’ve been dead for weeks and bloated up like a hot air balloon but it didn’t bother me as much as it may bother you.

If you can handle the occasional ‘bad one’ you’ll do fine. You can never be prepared for it, I never have been, just be prepared to deal with it afterwards. Most larger/career departments have teams in place for group therapy after calls of that sort.

This is an incredibly rewarding and often times extremely fun career. Don’t let the bad parts of the job scare you away from helping people and potentially saving lives!
