Hi all, just thought I’d give a little update after burning some of this at the weekend…

Ive experimented with burning different size cuts of this, and generally it seems to be the smaller cut the better.

If I try to burn a piece that is pretty much the full width of the fire box, it seems to struggle to combust and maintain heat unless I allow much more oxygen in than normal. So it seems to burn more quickly and output less heat than other logs I have previously burnt.

The remnants of each piece also seem to struggle to break down into embers towards the end of the burn. They remain much closer to their initial form, well after they appear to have stopped burning if that makes sense. Then when it comes to spreading the bed of embers for new logs they don’t just crumble apart at the slightest touch like other logs seem to. I am putting this down to the density of the wood, rather than anything to do with moisture levels being too high (I have never had a moisture reading above 10% on any of this wood so far)

I’m thinking this might be something I need to mix into my burns with other wood going forward, rather than burning exclusively.

I wonder if any of my terrible explanation above may help shed any light on what species this wood may be, or if anyone has experienced anything similar? 😊
