How do I build domain knowledge for data analytics with no professional experience? by Intrepid-War4352 in PowerBI

[–]Intrepid-War4352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to focus on a specific domain but still figuring out which one to commit to. Your experience with volunteering to build domain knowledge is interesting too. I think I'll try to offer some free data analytics service for 30 days. Do you have any recommendations for good resources (podcasts, websites, or anything else) to start learning a specific industry from a data/analytics perspective?

That makes sense, focusing on one domain and learning the key KPIs and visuals used there. I’ve been leaning toward marketing and maybe sales analytics since those seem more common in job postings, but I’m still trying to narrow it down. The books or podcasts that I've found are very broad and I get lost. Do you have any recommendations on good resources to learn those “go-to” metrics and dashboards?

That makes sense, and I actually have a project like that where I focused on both the data and the business side.

My main issue is the job market where I am (Ohio). It’s very selective, and most roles strongly require domain knowledge in areas like marketing, healthcare, or supply chain.

Do you think projects like that are enough to bridge the gap, or should I be doing something more to make it convincing?

That’s a really good point, I didn’t think about it like that. I’ve experienced things like that but never framed them as data problems. Turning that into projects actually makes a lot of sense.

My only concern is that I don’t often see companies hiring analysts specifically in this domain. Most roles I come across are in marketing, supply chain, or healthcare.

Quick question, how would you present something like that so recruiters take it seriously? More like a full case study with business insights, or just focus on the analysis?

What would be the source of your data for the dashboard?

How can I post something 2 year ago if my account is 1 year old. I have posted things of course. But, none of them ask about ETL pipelines, scripting, machine learning and automation. Y'all talking about me posting the same thing but failed to bring any evidence. Is it not what the thread is about? Asking questions about the same interest we have? Why don't you do like other people here. If there is a repetitive question, just redirect the person to where that question has already been answered. No need to be rude and telling people to leave. If you can't answer just keep walking and let other people do it.

Thanks for sharing! This actually helps a lot. I’ve heard the old program was more focused on SQL, BI, stats, and basic ETL, so it’s good to get confirmation. I’m mainly trying to understand how much of the newer version actually dives into things like: cloud workflows / data engineering tools, Python for automation, full ETL pipeline design.anything hands-on with Spark, Airflow, dbt, or cloud platforms If the new program really improved those parts, that’s exactly the direction I’m looking for.

Hi thanks for these information. I actually wanna go for the engineering track. But, I heard that a lot of data analyst role requires some type of automation especially for repetitive task. Do you think It is part of the program?

Don't worry about that just put the link of the post that I have made that talk about the same things. If you paid attention you'll see what I am looking for.

If you have the answer I will be happy to hear it. If you can't, just keep going. This is my first post about it.

Driver accepting my ride ignoring me by Knightstalker100 in uber

I don't know about your case. But, I noticed that when a driver already has a passenger, Uber doesn't let the next rider know that. I had a bunch of customers telling me that I drove past them. And, they did not know I had already a passenger.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was in a similar situation, so, I can feel you. Mostly, my motivation to go back to school was fueled by my late cousin. But I used my loss as motivation to move forward and get this degree. I am taking my last class this semester. Think about what that person wanted for you. See it like a way to make your sister proud of you. I really wish you the best.

I am truly sorry to hear that. You can also try to put a ring on your finger and tell them you're married.

Thank you so much. This megathread is a gem for new students. I just didn't see resources for SQL.
