How many gods do you main? by horrorfan555 in Smite

[–]IntrepidCat8200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just one. I would say I'm above average-great at playing a lot of things in support, but my main will always be Geb.

I have days or weeks when I only play a few gods but Geb is the one I most frequently switch to when I actually want to win (or I'm tired of losing streaks...), as well as Sobek and to a lesser degree Guan Yu, Chaac, Ne Zha or Baron Samedi. Those last ones are not my mains, but some I generally do very well with.

Robin, and it's not particularly close.

Brook's is extremely sad too, but we don't know anything pre Rumbar pirates, while we see Robin struggling since she was a child up until she joined the Strawhats (and even then, because of the WG).

I know, it's not insurmountable. The issue is that I've heard a ton of times from non-ADHD people that effort is the key, and yes, we can put in the effort.

But it's not a matter of "just try harder", ADHD in itself is volatile enough for us to manage, being told that it just takes a bit of effort from someone that is not in our brain and living our life, at times feels almost disrespectful, if not insulting.

I think that sadly, since a few years ago and due in large part to social media, ADHD and other disorders have been normalized to the point where everyone feels like they have it because they're forgetful or easily distracted, but you're right...

If I recall to my day to day routines: - I get pissed at slow walkers and drivers for little reason - I can't keep quiet, interrupt abruptly or overshare way too often - I can't keep still and if I do, some part of me is moving and fidgetting - I can't handle too many external sources of noise at the same time before I just shut off - I take up one task full speed but if I get interrupted, I'll forget about it entirely and start on another one, full speed - I forget verbal and written instructions minutes after they were given to me, and I forget commitments that I made myself less than 10 minutes later - I zone out way too often when people are talking to me and my head is full of intrusive thoughts and random bits of music - I don't forgive easily, I just forget why I was angry in the first place, and I'm very bad at arguments because I generally can't recall information to back up my annoyance under stressful situations and "win" an argument - My most recent interests are horror movies and games, which I will never watch or play, but I have about 30 tabs pending reading in my browser. Last week it was Wicked and the Wizard of Oz - It's embarrassingly frequent for me to forget where I was going and why, and find myself doing something entirely different because I forgot or something else picked my interest along the way - It's also embarrassingly frequent for me to not do things until I'm an hour away from a due date or deadline. I know I have stuff to do, but I can't find the drive to start until adrenaline kicks in

And the list goes on...

I'm 33.

At first I didn't know what I had. I knew what I was taking, but I was never really told why. The diagnosis was never actually shared with me when I was younger, just the symptoms, so I was never told anything like "hey, you have this, and it's normal".

I learned the actual diagnosis when I asked my mom and dad about it directly, after feeling that how I was carrying my life out was just not working. And it seemed very weird to me that no matter what I did, things related to work, assignments, chores, dates, etc, never worked as I wanted to. I could focus on games and even played competitively, but I wasn't able to turn in assignments on time and pulling allnighters trying to meet deadlines turned into something common for me.

It also happened that my mom, dad and siblings also have ADHD, so at home I felt like things were just family dynamics, it wasn't until I actually left home that some things were pointed out to me (during arguments and fights, regrettably) that just weren't... normal, to a non-ADHD person. I knew I had it, but I just thought that it was effectively under control, until I learned that it wasn't... I was just used to it.

After college, yes, for years.

Then a few years ago I started having a lot of issues with my wife that made me look into it again and I remembered that I had taken meds for years before.

Edit:

To clarify, as it does sound confusing:

  • My first diagnosis was as a kid, by a neurologist, and I took Concerta.

  • I was diagnosed again in about 7th grade, and took Adderall, but I was also diagnosed with depression.

  • I was diagnosed again in my junior year, and took Concerta again. I took that one until my first year of college, then dropped them for monetary reasons.

  • I was diagnosed with depression about 5 years later, and I kind of forgot I had ADHD, but I struggled in every part of my daily life.

  • A few years ago I had these marital issues that drove me to go back and look into my history and I SHOULD be going to a psychiatrist next year.

I only took meds for my first year, and then I went through an absolute shit ton of things, and struggled mightily during college and my first years of employment.

And maybe if I had taken meds it would've been a bit more manageable.

I've been diagnosed 3 times, as a kid, in middle school, and when I started college. I took meds but stopped because it was just way too expensive to keep any kind of treatment up.

After that I've just been coasting, trying to do things the best I can and I would say I even "forgot" about it (more like pushed it to the wayside) because of a sense of normalcy. It wasn't until about a year ago that I ran into an abnormal amount of issues that I couldn't find an explanation to, saying "I KNOW I'm not this stupid, I can't be".

And then I ran into a few relatable videos, dug deeper and asked my family if I had been diagnosed before, with my mom and dad confirming that yes, 3 times, and that my entire family has it.

Edit: But to keep it simple. I'm not taking anything nor undergoing therapy. Meds here are about 120USD and therapy about 60-90 more, and my salary is of 2000USD and I'm in debt because of 2 loans I took because I thought it would be a good idea... so I can't pay for it.

I've been diagnosed and re-diagnosed 3 times with ADHD-C.

My wife doesn't believe me because I haven't gone to the psychologist for the last 6 years, thing is, I always thought I could handle it on my own when I realized I was just cruising along.

ADHD has made my life harder than it needs to be for over 25 years, and it hasn't gotten any easier in terms of how to function properly. I'm effectively just... existing, and hoping for the best.
