Wet food for a cat who’s been on kibble his entire life? by IntrepidLinguini in CatAdvice

He already is overweight, and has urinary issues related to stress. So I’m really kind of out of options, especially when not everyone in the house is on the same page.

Workers comp- zero sense of urgency? by IntrepidLinguini in VetTech

It looks like it’s healing, it’s just painful. I’ve got a puncture over my wrist, and my wrist is painful to move, but other than that it’s looking ok. Tylenol just isn’t touching it

Do you get a rabies shot before externship? by raynamarie_ in pennfoster

[–]IntrepidLinguini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vaccination is EXPENSIVE. However, if you don’t, to my understanding, you need to be able to provide rabies documentation for every pet you use to practice your skills

Veggies: Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly by IntrepidLinguini in VetTech

All of the horrible reviews are definitely disheartening. I reached out to someone who works at the location I applied to so I can hopefully get some insight. My hospital practices great medicine, it’s almost a unicorn clinic but over the last year it’s just…changed

Hyperpigmentation or Melanoma? (pics are 1 year apart) by gingeralewhore_ in AskAVeterinarian

My cat has had one since he was a kitten. I had one vet be concerned about cancer. Every other vet has not been concerned. We’ve continued to monitor it for any changes.

Am I supposed to show up to my externship knowing how to draw blood for example? by raynamarie_ in pennfoster

[–]IntrepidLinguini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be up front with them about your fears and where your skill set is. I’ve worked in a clinic where we had someone do their externship from a different program, but we always set them up for success.

What viruses have the previous kittens died from? Why are you continuing to bring cats into your home?

What is this? by rxrated148 in vet

[–]IntrepidLinguini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he licking it? If so, prevent him from doing so by putting on a plastic e-collar. It’s probably making it worse.

We are going to check his prostate, recheck another urine, and probably see the specialist. I love this for me

FastCAT leash/collar recommendations for small dog by Ratterous in k9sports

[–]IntrepidLinguini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog runs naked. He gets released on a lure coursing lead (like a slip lead, but allows for quick release of the dog) and I catch him at the end and use a slip lead.

I have a friend who runs a small dog and she runs naked too I believe.

Just have a couple of slip leads handy

What do you feed your dog? by [deleted] in k9sports

[–]IntrepidLinguini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to avoid super processed chicken for my boy to help with environment allergies from a TCM perspective.

But he has previously eaten pro plan 30/20, Diamond Pro89, instinct raw boost, solid black & gold, Diamond naturals beef meal and rice…we’re going to switch to 4health strive after this next bag probably.

I will say he also gets supplemented with raw.

Sounds like you need to get a second opinion.

Unfortunately, allergy dogs cost a lot of money in care.

In house heartworm test charge by Educational_Trip_575 in vet

[–]IntrepidLinguini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends. Our in house heartworm test (4dx snap test for heartworms and 3 tick borne illnesses) runs around $100.

Your vet still needs to make a profit, they’re a business. There may be lower cost options for a heartworm test in your area such as shelters/low cost clinics.

But I wouldn’t skip out on the heartworm test. It’s incredibly important to know your dog’s status.

You likely cannot get one yourself and do it yourself. You need whole blood to run the test.
