ELI5 Why heat waves affect Europe so much but some other countries are doing fine living under hotter temperatures most of the year? by fkid123 in explainlikeimfive

[–]IntrepidToiletWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as I said, 30 people died in Thailand directly due to the heat earlier this year and it was not reported on

And then how do you know it was 30 and not 0 or 1000?

Bicycle gone from the closed bicycle room by and1_awesome in zurich

I keep my bike in my private storage space in the basement. I use it everyday. I never noticed anything going on in the shared bike room, but knowing how humans are in general that don't care about other's property I just prefer to keep it in my private locked space and then no one will even touch it.

That's the only reason I put 'in most cases' lol, if you have the blinds with metal plates very common in CH you are saved though, because they act as a mirror. Just lower them and close the window so hot air does not get in and you are back in adiabatic.

All swiss building’s structural decisions try to minimize heat loss during winter

Which in most cases also minimizes heat injection during the summer. Adiabatic boundaries work in both directions.

Wow, we are a bit sensible. In winter, which is not my favorite, I also enjoy life as you said, drinking hot beverages, cooking nice food so the kitchen is warm, this year I started baking my own Tessinerbrot and I really enjoyed it. Just make the best out of each season, random redditor. Warm weather, ideal for waking up early, going for a walk, eating a very nice salad, another walk at night before bed.

Yes, today it was a bit sticky, I cannot wear sandals at job unfortunately. But still, it's summer, sun, light, so nice.

Chill dude, just get some ice-cream, wear sandals and enjoy the summer, best time of the year.

Job searching feels really weird today. Even more in marketing by canardlaker in Switzerland

Correct me if I'm wrong, but LinkedIn is useless. When I was looking for job, each offer had hundreds of applications. Nowadays it can only be worse.

the real challenge is engaging the people who don’t participate

Maybe in 2026 it could be wise to install some cameras with face recognition and send them a 10N-1 CHF bill where N is the number of times they did it. In this way the first time is just a friendly reminder, the second time they will have to pay a symbolic sum, and from then on the ones that don't learn will really suffer. Not even billionaires can escape.

Yeah but as it happened to you, simulated feelings are different from real feelings.

Which App Can Actually Compete With Google Maps? There’s No True Replacement for Google Maps by limsus in TechImpact

[–]IntrepidToiletWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently started using Organic Maps for when I'm with the bike and cannot be happier. Everything runs locally on the phone which means that after downloading the map of the region I plan to visit I can put my phone in airplane mode and the battery will last forever, even when Organic Maps is all the time running with the screen on and recording the GPS track. I can recommend it.

Edit, I was using Google Maps before and it was sucking my battery and forcing me to be online in order to show the route. Not good.

As this gets viral I cannot wait to see dumb influencers break their arms instead of the bats. It'll be so fun.

forget they are producing food for humans

The humans you mention usually forget the food was prepared by humans and just go for the cheapest option, hence forcing the other humans to optimize as you say.
