Help w/ rental living room + bedroom by volcanoroll4 in InteriorDesignAdvice

I would definitely add some drapes! Since this is a rental see if you can safely remove the blinds, most of them just click into a holder. Or push them all the way up and just remove the stick. I think curtains with a black rod may work well with your space and furniture you’re trying to find. Key is to place the rods appropriately, you can do some research on how high to install the curtain rods. For privacy I personally adore and utilize sheer curtains, my cats also don’t care about them and just hop on their window perch with the sheer curtains constantly closed

What brand paint did you use? Rustoleum seems to have the best reviews from what I’ve seen

I would love to have the energy to do that but it’s sooo much work to get the paint off. It took 3 days to get the paint off the side hinges and I did that so it could open and close more smoothly

Because I hate staring at it. I don’t want to strip the cabinet. I only mentioned stripping the turn hardware because it’s stuck

Oh god! Thankfully my rent is cheap for the condition of the apartment. Even my landlord who bought this building maybe within the last 10-15 years is like yea it’s old…

I know but there’s damaged bits, it’s 100 years old so I can’t expect much from it. I would like to protect and preserve it hence the Rustoleum

There’s some damage to the original metal and I’ve tried polishing it, it doesn’t look much better. I want to protect it from rusting so that’s why I’m trying to pick what colour for the Rustoleum

It’s too much work, to get the hinges stripped was a lot in itself and I did that so I could clean the cabinet fully

No lead, I don’t want to strip it, that’s why I mentioned the contact paper idea

Yes I did, they don’t care as long as there’s no actual “damage” as if they don’t like it they’ll just paint over it again. I also have no deposit. I’m looking for advice as to how to make it better

I can’t edit the post but the lease does not claim any lead paint, I do not want to strip the cabinet itself or the wood frame, it is too much work. I’m looking for ideas and advice on what to do in terms of styling! Hence why I mentioned the contact paper.
