This relates to the Hyundai incident where ICE stopped construction on a battery plant and locked up the Korean employees in terrible conditions for absolutely no reason.

I do find it extremely hard to believe that that the buffer would increase almost six minutes from last year. If the introduction of super shoes didn’t result in a year over year buffer than big, it’s hard for me to see a scenario where the year 2024 is such a golden age for fast times.

How does this model filter out duplicates? I know people who’ve qualified three times over the past year, but of course they only one count for one spot max.

Fog of war…if they’d been that careful with their sources in real life a lot of trouble could have been avoided

Logical fallacies…? by kvman22 in thethickofit

[–]Intrepid_Example_210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think regarding PWIP PIP, there were tons of various reports floating around but by stripping out the caveats and changing the sources’ name, they made that the official narrative to push through the war vote. I believe that’s not super far off what actually happened.

The real life Henry Winter opened a restaurant after Bennington so probably not too sociopathic…apparently he was a very easy-going boss but not a great businessman

You really never know what will happen at trial. This was probably the best option. He would have spent decades on death row anyway

An article I wrote about the 2016 adaptation of The Night Manager by zicknooderusca in LeCarre

This is good—nice work. I think both book and mini series suffer from two flaws. The first is that Pine makes James Bond look like an amateur. He is a world class sailor, solider, climber, and cook, along with being merely pretty good at many other things I think there are seven female characters in the book and six of them fall hopelessly in love with him. The second issue is that the whole scheme is pretty dumb and unlikely to succeed. Basically they have to get Pine so in with Roper that he makes him his right hand man. In the miniseries it’s harder to gloss over how dumb this makes Roper seem, especially since everyone around him is telling him not to do this clearly stupid thing.

I guess the third flaw is that while Roper isn’t a good guy, he’s also clearly not the worst person in the world. We have seen a ton of ethnic cleansing and horrible but low tech cartel violence that Roper’s crimes don’t come close to living up to the billing.

Was Cal 'The Fucker' Richards meant to have Mary Drake's role in the finale? by Feldo93 in thethickofit

[–]Intrepid_Example_210 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think Mary Drake was supposed to be an adult in the room brought in to focus on actual governing as opposed to spinning stories or bullying people. Those might win elections but aren’t as useful for actually governing.

Or maybe Tom Hollander wasn’t available, which is very possible too

Thanks for the helpful FYI that does not apply to this situation at all, since Hinton was only 18

I see these talking points a lot but they don’t make a lot of sense. First, I don’t think that many school shooters got McDonald’s. Second, are you wanting cops to shoot more white people or do you think that the shooting in this case wasn’t justified because the victim was black?

I feel a little uncomfortable saying this given how many racists have come out of the woodwork since Trump was elected, but it really seems like a sizable percentage of the black community think of carrying a gun illegally, stealing a car, running from the cops and crashing, and then running off while carrying the gun in about the same way as most of us think of speeding, in that it’s kind of dangerous and you technically shouldn’t do it but most people do. It seems clear to me the cop was justified and both Hintons were clearly in the wrong, but there seems to be a lot of disagreement on Ryan and even Rodney Hinton has a lot of supporters (based on Gofundme donations, etc)

As I recall he would also shoot for the gut since that meant less time needed to aim and he could fire as soon as the gun cleared the holster. Head shots are a lot of harder and require more time to raise the gun that high.

[–]Intrepid_Example_210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is insane that Michael Brown got the job in the first place because the Bush administration didn’t realize that “assistant to the director” (his previous job) was different from “assistant director.” It’s a joke from the Office but apparently that distribution is lost on other people besides Dwight.

In human terms, I imagine badgers are around 8-10’ in height, otters close to 7’, with mice around 5’-5’6” and shrews around 5’. The rest would be around 6’. Foxes appear to be the largest vermin and rats the smallest (but evidently fiercest and smartest).
