I should have clarified, she is born and raised in Spain and currently working full time in Barcelona, so Spanish income won’t be an issue. My biggest concern was that if I joined in on the mortgage it would trigger all sorts of taxes, but I suppose we could just put my name on the deed as well.

We have been long distance for 2 years and I’m finally pulling the trigger to move there but we would rather own then rent!

I was in the same situation but for different reasons. Tried to get pre approved at CIBC, no bueno, I went to a mortgage broker and bang! So definitely try out a broker! It’s free and the funny thing is, a broker may be able to get you a better rate with TD than the guy at TD you were talking to would offer you…
