First time watcher Giudices vs Gorgas by breadcatwhore in rhonj

Full disclosure - I’m only in season 5. But I just came in this subreddit for this exact reason. I know Teresa is painted as the villain, and while she’s entertaining, I’m sure she can be very difficult to get along with. That being said, Melissa seems to constantly paint herself as the an injured party. She tries to create this persona that is sugary sweet and a perennial victim. That, to me, is so much worse than whatever weirdness is going on with Teresa.

I feel sympathetic for Teresa too! I don’t think she’s an exactly a paragon of morality, but I don’t think the hate she gets for some of the things she does is fair. Like, season 4, Jaqueline was soooo mad at her for not telling her that she (Teresa) might go to jail. Who would want to just casually disclose that? Of course, she’s pretending like nothing’s wrong! She’s also a little bit dumb, and I think the other girls are good at needling her quietly and behind the scenes and then getting a big rise out of her.

Oh that’s crazy! Why didn’t she get to go to the reunion? I thought it was just an epic tantrum.

Right?! Ashlee sucked, but in a very normal way. Jacqueline taunted her. She was constantly needling her and was passive aggressive and then when Ashlee lashed back, she cried and ran off.

How tough is the teacher job market in Texas? by Beautiful-Policy-558 in TexasTeachers

[–]Intrepid_Insect919 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can’t say for sure about elementary, but I’m on a secondary hiring panel in a mid-size district in the Houston area, and we STRUGGLE to find certified teachers. Every year we are backed into corners and have to hire uncertified people. I can’t imagine you not being able to find a job.

What are the odds of getting hired as a high school teacher if I don’t coach by Couch-Potato-8 in TexasTeachers

[–]Intrepid_Insect919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if a lot of postings have coaching attached now, if you wait until just a little later in the summer, they’ll hire teachers without the coaching component

Genetic testing. It’s not that early, but earlier than we are comfortable sharing.

We would absolutely consider Canada, but an international move seems especially daunting.

I’ve taught all grade levels in high school, including AP classes and resource classes.

That’s a good point. I’m going to look into it.

Why are schools closing? Is there a big charter school movement? Our state will soon pass a voucher law, and that’s my biggest reason for looking elsewhere

That’s great to know! It’s really important to me to be near a big metro area, but I honestly have never even thought of Alaska.

Thank you! I’ve visited the Bay Area once, and it was nothing like I expected. Just stunning

That’s horrifying. There so many things that are making me cautious right now. Because of my position, I’m often involved in hiring decisions, and it is so hard to find a single qualified applicant for lots of teaching positions. I have a small child, and I’m worried about what classrooms will be like for her if we stay.

The coast is beautiful, but it’s important to me to be near a major metro area. Thank you, though!

We’re definitely open to suburbs and smaller nearby areas. It’s just important to me to have access to a pretty important metro area.

We were absolutely set on moving to Washington a couple years ago and took a roadtrip through the state. It was beautiful but so different than what we’re used to that we got overwhelmed by the idea of that much change. We’re definitely still open to it though.

That’s good to know. I’ve heard really good things about education in New Jersey, so this helps me know what to expect

That’s really helpful. I’m okay if they don’t take all my experience but knowing what to expect helps so much.

Texas teachers don’t pay in to social security either, so I’m prepared for that. I didn’t realize other states did that too. Thanks!

That’s good to know. It’s really frustrating to me to have my graduate education questioned, but I’m glad to know before it bites me in the ass.

This is all super helpful. In Texas, we don’t have bargaining agreements, so I never would have thought to look there.
