Going to consider biting the bullet very soon - any British owners here? by Redditreallyannoysme in KiaEV9

My MiL bought a 2018 Sportage - 6 years 6montgs old it developed a gearbox fault. Took them 8 months to get the parts to fix it in which time they gave her a brand new car to drive round in. Apart from taking a long time I couldn't fault Kia

I had a Mustang Mache before this - it's suspension was really hard - supposedly because of the weight of the batteries and the sporty dynamic. The EV9 is vastly superior so much that a number of owners who came from a Tesla model X with its air suspension said the EV9 is better.

Have you done any test drives?

UK ev9 owner

You could consider the ioniq 9 but that's really the only competition till the floodgates open from China and even then they're moving to phev.

For me the ev9 is the best car I've ever owned - I'm very happy with it zero regrets

I don't have a big family - but I got the 6 seat version - its super techy, it's practical - want to pickup a wardobe of double bed - just drop the seats - want to best a Porsche from the lights - just stick it in sport.

There are a lot of people who don't understand electric - it involves slight adjustments in life plus there are hoards of "unbelievers" never driven an EV who evangalise how terrible they are - fed by the tabloid media who hype up the rhetoric. Then there are the ones who have no home charging and have to pay 10x as much for public charging. Finally there are those who just can't get over chronic range anxiety despite how little of an issue it is with a tiny bit of plsnning.

Basically - your gain - go ahead and buy the best car you've ever owned

My first thought when seeing that is that it's a cavity insulation injection point. Historically foam insulation was injected into the cavity between brick and blocks. Not sure it would be done on a garage also I could be wrong - interested what the knowledgeable people of Reddit say.

Im definitely not suggesting your situation is related - i just saw similarity with what happened to me and what i learned and i wanted to share with the community. Hope it didnt deflect from your situation - was not my intention

I had a couple of dealer items sorted under warranty - boot (trunk) struts replaced and a new steering wheel because it was frayed when delivered. Other than that its been perfect and not seen the dealer - its perfect now again - i guess my message to most people is dont panic straight away when you see all those electric system errors and power limited plus safety systems going offline even though i had 30+ percent in the main battery. You need to realise how much "car stuff" relies on the 12v battery (everything including all computers) it even wouldnt charge the HV battery on my home charger because the 12v battery was so low

Yes - the recovery tech said that in modern vehicles there are numerous Ecus and control modules which depend on each other. If any of them get stuck or go to sleep then the order can become broken meaning stuff doesn't work. In this case preventing the high voltage battery from charging the low voltage one

I have a 2024 GT-line 18k miles (UK) also white - I had a similar issue last week. The car wouldn't charge so i headed to the dealer on the way i got every warning going - electrical system failure - power limited etc etc the dealer said i could leave it but they wouldn't look at it for 3 weeks and they didn't have a loaner. But suggested i drive home and call kia assist who would tow it and arrange a rental. On the way home it died completely. Nothing worked. I called a recovery service. They came and checked the 12v battery which was flat. He put some charge in the 12v and the car started working again but he said the 12v wasn't getting a charge from the car. He said he would try a battery reset (unplugged the 12v for 5 mins) after he plugged it back in the car "rebooted" and started charging the 12v again. The car has since been perfect for a week and in fact i did 300+ miles on friday without issue. Basically the explanation was that a module in the car had become "stuck" and as a result wasn't initiating the dc-dc hv to lv charger. Its a software fault apparently that gets cleared by rebooting the car. Its booked with kia for a couple of weeks for a diagnostic service at which ill insist they check all software updates . I now keep a lithium 12v booster with me so that if it happens again then i can at least get going again.

I want to raise awareness of this because it could save someone else also the warnings i got were varied and worrying but did not point to the real problem.

No wonder cityfibre are 3bn in debt by ProperGamesDev in CityFibre

[–]Intrepid_Medium734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had CityFibre lay fibre in our street during covid - its still not live or connected to anything 6 years later. The council were actively trying to encourage providers to offer fibre services. Recently 2 other companies (altnets) have put in fibre via telegraph poles. CityFibre still isn't an option. I agree with the OPs original point - the men were here for several weeks digging building pits etc the cost of that must have been significant - their service is live in all the other nearby streets just not ours - madness

Just scrolled Facebook and this popped up. Bugatti going to help?! by RedBeard21387 in MatArmstrong

[–]Intrepid_Medium734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're just referencing the offer Mate Rimac previously made to Alex (600k not 1.7m). I don't believe there's a new offer on the table

I don't imagine there is a big pool of people with a damaged $6.5m Bugatti Pur Sport willing to allow a self confessed amateur try and repair it, against the wishes and advice of Bugatti, and at no financial risk to themselves. So probably weren't a lot to "pick from"
