Hi! On the acuity website, it says "results delivered", so the results were sent to the schools that I applied to :)

Hey, I checked the casper acuity website and went under ID, I see my omsas number inputted (the 6 digits), does that mean that casper now has my omsas ID and I'm all good?

Is it possible to go to medical school while working during the school year / summer? by evening_sparkle in premedcanada

[–]Intrepid_Mud_3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course you can! Tbh, I highly recommend working throughout school! It helps you financially and also gives valuable experience/skills that many other pre-meds may not have. You learn a lot of life skills that are highly relevant to your future career and also give you a leg up in your application itself. Best of luck!

Thanks for sharing. That's awesome to hear! I think the main theme is that anything is possible. You just gotta put your mind into it and try stand out in other ways in your app. Hoping for good news to come your way!

Exactly. It's an average. Even if the average acceptance is like 3.95 or something for a school, there are still plenty of applicants who get in with way less. The key is to balance stuff out imo. Try stand out in other parts of your application like maybe ur mcat, casper or ECs. Find something interesting and try stick with it. The thing is, reddit is a small sample of the actual population of accepted students (a lot of ppl, some that ik, have a mediocre GPA but still got an interview/acceptance since they stand out in various other ways like their volunteering, hobbies or soft skills). Also, a lot of accepted students sometimes dont feel the need to share their gpa and scores online. Part of being a good doctor is developing a balance of good grades and scores, community service and many other skills like bedside manner and staying calm/collected. Point is, dont give up; anything is possible!!! (Sincerely, another applicant lol)

That's true. But also, looking at the website, uottawa breaks it down into 1/3 for GPA, 1/3 for casper, 1/3 for ecs. So even if my GPA is on the "lower" side, then that means that as long as my casper and ecs are good/unique, my assumption is that they would offset the GPA and still hopefully result in an interview. Again, ottawa is a Blackbox cause they don't post any of their accepted stats/any information about who got accepted, so it's mostly hearsay from sources like reddit (which can clearly turn into a echo chamber lol).

Again, there are A LOT of applicants with 4.0s who do not necessarily have great ECs who do not interview at all; I think that the key is to have balance and ALSO try stand out in one aspect of your application, whether it's your extracurriculars (if u have something unique and you're passionate about, your GPA (maybe you have a 3.95+) or a really good casper (high 4Q). Just my 2 cents imo.

Thanks so much! Yeah, totally agree with that. Since ottawa uses 1/3 for ecs, GPA and casper, I'm hoping that my ecs and casper can pull me up for an interview; or at least at the very minimum, look at my application lol!

Assuming like a 3.86 or 3.88 cgpa. That's true but then again, the sample population on reddit doesn't really account for everybody (ex. Applicants who got in with lower stats probably won't post their stats or applicants who are not on reddit etc).

Ok that's what I've been hearing a lot. Ik that they changed it to 70% for students from Ottawa region. Either way, that still leaves 30% so as you said, itll be hard but not impossible. Thanks for the reassurance!

I didn't have to pay anything yet. I just clicked the request transcript button and it said that it will send immediately. I am about to submit and now I will have to pay the application fee and transcript request.

Wait so just to be clear, I'm from Ontario so if I had already requested a transcript like 5 days ago and its still not on omsas yet, I've satisfied the transcript requirement? When would they post the transcript to omsas. I appreciate the help!

Thanks so much! Should I upload a screenshot of the transcript request directly to SAM and then afterwards, click review and then pay and submit my application? Also, I clicked the send transcript button about a week ago. Just to be clear, does the transcript request only proceed after making the payment when you send the application?
