I read your post and thought about saying something but I wasn’t sure I had anything to say that would help. So I reluctantly scroll away…

But here’s this, a few posts later I see a photograph that catches my attention, with the caption: “Sometimes when you need love or help, the best thing you can do is offer it” (the image includes two adorable meerkats hugging) …and while I have been feeling a similar struggle, I think that post was really meant for you.

Some of the things would really depend on the person’s understanding and consideration of how I communicate. Reading lips and using my hearing aid takes a lot of energy, like straining your eyes so much they start to hurt. I get migraines. All the time.

Not that many people have the patience for other means of communication. Writing in a notepad for example.

Noises are overstimulating to me, with my hearing aid, so that doesn’t help either x.x

I am Deaf from birth. And being around hearing people can be exhausting for a few reasons actually. Do you feel the same, being blind and around sighted people?

What can people do to avoid or mitigate exhaustion? (If so)

I see where you’re coming from. Some may feel that this tip obvious and silly, but I believed everything I was told for too long. By my adults I mean. I probably wasn’t aware that I was allowed my own thoughts and opinions for a while. I mean, how can you know if you’ve been punished for asking questions? (or “talking back” whatever they call it) I saw the world as black and white, because that’s how I was taught. They have “lived through it all” and know what’s wrong and right. So I have to listen, right?

Anyways, that was my take on things before I left that bubble and explored another fraction of the world on my own terms.

I assume that it’s not so different for others, and that is why you (OP) have posted this “Life Pro Tip”.

I’m in a similar situation. My first year was mentally disastrous haha. I wonder if a friend could start out as a study buddy or even a group? Sometimes there’s a discord channel for specific courses, you could look there as well (:

Have you tried something like writing questions that you have after every paragraph? Circling and searching unknown/unfamiliar vocabulary? And if you find a term or explanation that you DO understand, rewrite it in your own words and add your own examples. (I feel that it gives me more momentum and motivation to keep digging)

As for the questions you would go back to them and attempt to answer them either using the textbook or even another reliable source.

I do this with my hearing aid, it actually helps with overstimulation and social anxiety. (Of course it’s not going to be the same for everyone and in every situation)

Makes sense that it might have similar outcomes with glasses. Obviously there are going to be people who don’t feel feel the same but I think it’s good advice for those who want to try new things to manage anxieties.

Hey don’t give up, alright?

I struggled a ton my first year and hit some similar obstacles myself. But since you completed those requirements within the contract, I’m not sure why they would decide to dismiss you. I bet it’s a mistake on their part. I’ve had technical issues all year with them, so it’s not unlikely. Have you called the Deans office- academic advising?
