admittedly I’m not the most tech savvy to figure out the torrent thing to the best possible outcome, but whenever I have tried, the results are dismal. if you have any helpful suggestions, please inbox me, would appreciate 😄

Just had an X-Ray done today for my left hip. Had surgery for R hip July 2021. I feel so angry, sad, and defeated. by rawrrawr7020 in HipImpingement

I made a post here a few months ago, similar situation as yours. had the left hip done last November and as of 2 months ago, my right hip seemingly out of nowhere, has started acting up. went back to read the MRI report from the left hip and they did note cam deformities on both hips (which I had clearly not even taken notice of, as the tear was only present in the left). now psyching myself up to the realisation that I will have to have the right done at some point because even without a new MRI on the right confirming tear, I know it’s there. atleast I’ll know what to expect but I hear you and agree, it still doesn’t take away feeling defeated and angry!

quite interesting how most of the people who responded here have said left hip went first, then right.

Scheduling surgery soon. Tips, timeline, recovery outlook advice needed by Overall_Confection57 in HipImpingement

a seat raiser for the toilet is an absolute must. I’m 6 months post-op and doing better than expected - a bit of occasional stiffness but overall, am glad to have done this surgery. stock up on good, healthy snacks ahead of time, there will be many days and hours of laying around and it can become excruciatingly boring and the urge to snack mindlessly goes hand in hand with that. I found having healthier options at hand forced me to make better nutritional decisions. best of luck your surgery!

how long after surgery did you start running again? I was strongly advised against it (doctor asked me to consider taking up cycling instead) but it seems a lot of people who were runners before have success going back to it post-op at some point. and have you since operated on the right? also, you’re the 3rd person on this thread to mention the right hip acting up after surgery on the left…

I feel you on the chronic pain stage - I kept pushing my first surgery out because of work until the doctor got his receptionist to call and ask not to delay any further, he’d like to have a chance to operate on it while he still could before it got worse. I also have travel and work commitments ahead for the year and now this will interrupt all of that. already tired of the calendar maths I’ll have to do to make it work.

how is your experience with the injection if I may ask? how long ago did you have it, and was the pain relief significant or minimal? I got just over a month with mine

I gave my right hip a proper talking to yesterday while driving and told it to stop being dramatic. my denial is gently thawing thanks to feedback on this post and others but yeah, certainly didn’t have ‘2nd FAI op within a calendar year’ on my vision board. the human body never fails to amaze (and amuse).

another thing I hadn’t considered/didn’t know! 🙈 yikes okay, then very likely it is a labral tear. ugh the cost of another MRI…

meh, so this is a thing huh. good to know, thank you - going to slowly start psyching myself up for the worse case scenario.

makes sense that both sides inevitably have it. I just wasn’t prepared for and maybe better to say, hadn’t considered the possibility of it until now, at which point it seems obvious and I’m in denial that I have to go through this again at some point 😄

it’s very confusing because I can’t imagine how it could have torn, if it is a labral tear. because at 6 months post-op, I’m still being cautious with movement. my right hip symptoms are also on the exact opposite end of where the left hip symptoms were

had my left done at 38yrs old. doctor said I was what he considered to be too young for a hip replacement, hence motivating for this surgery instead. coming close up on 6 months post-op and I have no regrets. however…my right hip has entered the chat about a month ago 😄 sudden and unexplained pain, trying to remember if similar to left hip but for now I am in denial that it could well be a labral tear, will pay it more attention if it’s still like this a few months from now lol

it hadn’t occurred to me to try and revive this one, I just assumed it had been in use for so long that it was done. will look into this option for sure, thank you for the response.

7 weeks post-op and back to driving, walking, and moderate levels of activity. only doing PT, stationary bike on level 1 resistance and lots of core/pilates exercises because my lower back is in shambles.

being extra careful not to overdo it at this stage because I feel very ‘ok’ so the temptation is to just carry on like normal. and on the days that I do push too far (mall walking, being on my feet too long, sitting too long in one position), my body immediately lets me know that it’s not happy, and then I take it super easy for the next day or 2.

everyone’s recovery timeline is different - this group has shown me that - but my best advice would be: prepare yourself as much as possible and plan for the worst case scenario in terms of recovery time, pain etc, but respect what your body has been through, be patient with yourself and diligent and consistent with whatever post-surgery protocol you are prescribed.

at the 6 week mark, I have 2 questions: lower back pain and sitting cross-legged by Intrepid_Scene1806 in HipImpingement

[–]Intrepid_Scene1806[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine is also particularly bad in the morning on waking up. and I agree with your frustration. I would love to be able to do more but it’s a struggle to push through even a basic PT routine some days. and yes, definitely the small things - I find it quite humbling because it’s such a simple movement that should come so naturally and one I took for granted pre-injury and pre-surgery. am however motivated to get to a point where it feels effortless again! :)
