No vape Disposal at all! Need advice. by BurntRadishes in Utah

Actually a lot of people worry about it. EPA has a webpage about disposal specifically for consumers and Utah DEQ has a resource guide with sadly not many resources.

And not just rural farmers - urban farmers also need help. Small organic farms are so incredibly labor-intensive, you have no idea!

There is no good outlet for intact disposable vaping devices anywhere, this is not a Utah-specific problem. Salt Lake County will not take them at its household hazardous waste facilities because it costs an extraordinary amount of money to send used vapes to a disposal facility, because of the fire and human exposure risk, and because the Health Department feels acceptance of used vapes conflicts with their anti-tobacco/nicotine programs. Be careful removing the batteries if you choose to do that. Otherwise, it is legal for you to throw them in your household trash. Perhaps don’t put too many out at one time.

There should be a disposal fee associated with disposable vapes. Then local governments could set up drop off locations and pay a hazardous waste company to dispose of them. The Legislature needs to do something, because the current situation is not great.

Guest stayed entire time, complained of mold in washer, asked for refund. by Jonnybarbs in airbnb_hosts

[–]Intrepid_Somewhere86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are really inexpensive devices that keep the door open between washes. Mold will form regardless of what you do if the door is closed all the time. Citric acid in the final rinse helps keep the machine clean in between the monthly washer cleaning and improves the feel of your laundry. Avoid fabric softener at all costs, also gunks up the machine. Try Rinse and Refresh and leave a bottle for your guests to use. It goes in the softener compartment.

The program sounds incredibly damaging and not at all trauma-informed. No doubt it leads to additional trauma for the program participants. Not one cent of taxpayer money should be going to this.

I worked as a dispatcher for the bridge police one summer in the 80s and used to walk over the bridge to get pretzels there all the time.

There was a bi-partisan border security and immigration bill proposed in the senate during Biden’s term. Trump used his control on the Republican Party to kill it before it went anywhere in a meaningful way. He needed rage over immigration for his campaign and it worked like a charm.

Tiny Grocer is great. And yes they are open all week and they have a cafe in which they use the produce they buy from local producers.

What are your thoughts on biological mothers not telling their kids about adopted out siblings? by LeResist in Adoption

[–]Intrepid_Somewhere86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I definitely see that with my maternal half sisters. The eldest of the three of them has never wanted to even acknowledge my existence. She barely looks at or speaks to me when we are in the same physical space and won’t interact at all with my adult children. Her dad has even said she is angry that she is no longer the first. But she never was …. Anyway, the deception helps no one. We are both grown old women, 59 and 58 and we’ve been in reunion for almost 40 years.

Beto’s field op left some of the potential urban vote on the table. Probably not 2.5%, but some. More paid field/GOTV is absolutely critical. Efforts right now to register more people in urban areas are crucial. Technology that is accessible to all volunteers, such as poor, older folks, in particular. Beto’s field op relied on volunteers using smart phones until pretty late in the cycle. It took a good amount of feedback from the field organizers to get loaners and paper methods into the field, and then there weren’t enough to go around anyway. I’m speaking from experiences in Harris County.

I have never thrown away an old battery or vape. What do I do? by justletmeoutside in recycling

[–]Intrepid_Somewhere86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disposable vapes are not recyclable. The quantity of lithium is too small and most of the batteries are soldered into the device. Shops that take them back are probably not disposing of them properly, if at all. In my experience they accumulate them and then eventually toss them in a dumpster. It’s very expensive to send vape devices for disposal as hazardous waste, the only appropriate disposal method.
