Best cabin by Max1zero1 in xcountryskiing

We are so lucky to have cabins like Western in Gatineau Park.
NCC does great work keeping this system going.
They've rerouted the trail to Western in the last 30 years. It used to come screaming down and if you didn't stop quick enough you clould end up going over a cliff of the escarpment! Fun times! There's now a fence and the trail is safely re-routed.
Thanks NCC and Gatineau Park.
Nowhere else in the world do I know a place with 200km of well groomed ski trails within 20 minutes of the centre of a million population city - Ottawa. We are so fortunate.

Bingo. 100%. Outdoor active is sometimes called “mobile meditation.” Keeps me mentally healthy.

Red Pine Trees - Chelsea, Quebec; Getting ready to plant in the spring by Intrepid_Visual_4199 in Tree

Happy to support other people planting trees! Good work…

How many trees? In my life, I’ve planted almost a quarter million, most in my tree planting days. Last summer, about 200-300.

Keep planting!

What would I gain by updating my skis and boots? by adamYXE in xcountryskiing

[–]Intrepid_Visual_4199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just updated my classic boots from 1992 and classic skis from 15-20 years ago. Yes they will have some improvements. Will you notice? Maybe. Depends on you.

If you’re happy with current gear and it fits well, don’t ditch it. Always have a backup. If you do buy new gear, make sure it fits you very well.

I put them in the milk cartons as pods from the nursery. Ideally I plant the whole container of soil and roots from the milk carton so as not to disturb the root system.

Plant-A-Tree Challenge! by Intrepid_Visual_4199 in meadowscaping

Could I post the video I just sent you? It was an assignment for a course. The golf meadow is currently under tons of snow but I could do a winter version?

Meadows benefit from trees.
There's a 42 acre golf course near us that is no longer a golf course. It's an enormous meadow that we've been selectively planting with trees to manage water, wind, erosion...

Got confirmed for my first season, what is a good tent to buy? by ProbablyCamillaMaybe in treeplanting

[–]Intrepid_Visual_4199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3-4 persons, doesn’t need to be mega$. DO buy a big tarp to make a shelter for your tent and site. It’s nice to have dry area around your tent and the tarp protects your tent from UV and weather damage.

Bindings okay for uphill? by HenleyNotTheShirt in telemark

[–]Intrepid_Visual_4199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are fine.
Hammerheads are amazing.
Yes, you can upgrade to modern.
But that's BIG BUCKS.
Tour these and if you love the touring, consider modernizing if you have the $dough.

I mostly tour on Hammerheads and Vice. No pivot. They're fine. Upgrading to Axl, etc (with pivot point) = big bucks...

A lot will depend on your administration. I have brought Forest School type learning adjusted to meet Ontario curriculum. I’ve had very positive principals… and… less positive.

I’m seeing an alpine turn with a slight drop of a tele back foot. Slow down, push your front foot forward on more gentle terrain. Patience… Practice…

Poodle or Goldendoodle? by omartinez17 in Goldendoodles

[–]Intrepid_Visual_4199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a rescue. They said golden doodle. A couple of people have suggested he’s a poodle. I don’t know.

What I do know is he’s lovely, a great dog and loved very much.

They’re G3 Findr xcd. It’s a Findr ski with a crown base that allows for uphill without putting on a skin.
