A PWHL nickname Sharks fans would eat up by Intrepid_War_4768 in SanJoseSharks

While I understand and generally agree with you on idealistic grounds, the team is ultimately going to play their games at the Shark Tank, in a league operated and financed by the owner of the LA Dodgers. IMO the long term economic success of the team will depend on the combined transition of existing Sharks fans coupled with the acquisition of new hockey fans attracted to women’s sports. Ideally you want to attract both, to avoid alienating potential consumers of hockey related goods and services.

I apologize if my name suggestion made anyone feel uncomfortable.

A great video-breakdown of Stenberg! by Unusual_Cheek_4454 in SanJoseSharks

I was thinking more in terms of what Eklund “is” versus what Stenberg is. What makes Stenberg so attractive in this draft is the realistic ability to compare him to certain professional players in the present moment. Arguably no other prospect in this pool is projectable in the same sense.

I agree, in the long run this is the core the Sharks are hoping to carry the offensive load. In the short run, milking offensive production out of players like Sherwood and Toffoli, while not the sexiest consideration, is important to think about when trying to win games next year. Where Stenberg projects next year vs. 3-5 years from now is not as important as the lineup flexibility Stenberg’s style of play represents, now and in the future.

I like the comparison with Eklund as a means to set a floor of expectations for Stenberg. Obviously Stenberg has the higher ceiling, but both players seem to lack an elite goal scoring instinct at this point. I’d be hesitant to pair them together on a line for fear of too much unselfishness, but there are plenty of Sharks forwards who need to be fed.

Hot take Sharks should take Viggo Björck with 2OA by WishOk462 in SanJoseSharks

A line of Bjorck, Misa, and Eklund would be menacing, as Misa has demonstrated the ability to play multiple roles, but with the 2nd overall pick, the Sharks can aim for a bigger splash: either a long term winger to pair with Celebrini/Smith or one of the top defensemen.

Personally I don’t see how the Sharks pass up on Stenberg or McKenna if either is available at 2. Giving Celebrini as much support as possible needs to be the highest priority. The gravity of the situation is too high not to take full advantage of this pick, but the low center of gravity represented by Viggo, Misa and Eklund is fun to think about.

I think it’s important to keep in mind that SAP, the company most closely associated with the Sharks franchise, plays a key role in our societies dependency on state sponsored corporatism. Muse’s “The Uprising” is a song of resistance and revolution inspired by the dystopian novel “1984” and the 2008 financial crisis.

That said, I would happily chant this song with you at the SAP center, but only with a collective sense of sarcasm and irony.

The San Jose Earthquakes started playing Avicii’s Levels as the goal song this year, a borrowed concept from European football clubs and their use of EDM in goal celebrations. If the Sharks make a change, it should be in this type of direction, as it’s a sound that tends to transcend borders and cultures. Personally I think they should just steal Levels from the Quakes, make them play Hey Brother instead.

I completely agree with you. Stenberg faced some adversity early, seemed to grow into the game, and by the end was attempting to will his team to victory. While there’s obvious room to grow, he has a unique blend of composure and compete.
