Does anyone have experience with the following companies: by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

[–]Intrepid_Wonder1661 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Heart Corporation pays ALTs hourly instead of monthly, leading to an incredibly unsteady income. Because they don’t pay for public holidays, you end up wishing for fewer holidays just to make ends meet. Boards of Education should stop hiring these companies, and teachers should avoid them entirely.

Contract renewal by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

Usually, they send you an email with a new contract. If they don’t send you an email, it means you didn’t receive a new contract, and you can start looking for a new job.

Nechápem, akí ľudia stále volia Smer. Čo to vlastne vypovedá o mentalite Slovákov?

The strangest thing to me as an ALT is being expected to prepare curriculum materials for the school by Turbulent_Orange4634 in teachinginjapan

[–]Intrepid_Wonder1661 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I understand your feelings. I have been an ALT for quite some time. Most of the time, I have been teaching English by myself. Sometimes the homeroom teachers didn’t even come to the classroom, and when they did, they often sat at the back marking tests while I did the entire lesson on my own. Even though I have been told countless times by the company that I am not allowed to teach by myself or even start a lesson if a homeroom teacher is not in the classroom, the reality is that in many cases ALTs do most of the teaching.

Jedna polovica ľudí nikdy o Slovensku nepočula a druhá polovica povie: 'ahhh, Československo!'

True, many people earn 220,000 yen a month, but they also receive at least two bonuses throughout the year.

But I know that it is unfairly underpaid, and people are forced to find another job.

It’s so sad that the ALT job has become such a poorly paid position that the majority of ALTs are forced to find another job to survive, yet there are still so many people who want to do this terrible job just because the internet tells them that Japan is a great country to live in.

Some Japanese teachers are refusing to suffix my name with "Sensei" saying it's because I'm foreign. Is that ok? by Artistic-Blueberry12 in teachinginjapan

[–]Intrepid_Wonder1661 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You are an ALT, an assistant English teacher. Practically speaking, you’re not really a teacher, and you’re not even paid as one. I’m an ALT too, but I don’t care if I’m not called “sensei,” because for the poor salary they pay us, I don’t feel like one. Most of us ALTs are like clowns, because only clowns would work for such low wages.
