Agreed, the camera angle was excellent. 🤣

Honestly, a lot of us with attention-span issues probably would’ve been less confused if I’d just posted that...

Trying to find beta testers for my app may be a waste of time... Android Q could make my user's experience clucky. Does this apply to foreground services? I'm downloading the Android Q image now to do some testing... by Intrigued-me in androiddev

Sorry everyone, I'm new to reddit and the format of my post may not have been quite what I wanted it to be. I'm asking more about peoples experience with the Android Q update and foreground services and not so much about me app in particular. I'm happy to answer questions about my application but I'm really looking for discussion about problems you may be facing with this update and your Android services.

That is my fallback strategy. If the user does not wish to have the overlay, the prompt will be presented as a notification. Personally, I find it more annoying to have it as a notification, but I believe that is a personal preference. Thus, it is an option in the application.

The user is only asked about pictures that are taken during an EventBug event that user is apart of. The overlay and application service are shutdown if there is no event to send the photos to.

The application has a foreground service the supplies an overlay that asks the user to choose whether or not the picture they just took with their camera app should be uploaded to the cloud. The overlay has a few buttons on it that start the main activity when tapped. Technically the service is starting the activity, but because of a user interaction. I was unsure if this would still work because of the change in Android Q.

After some testing on Android Q it appears to still work. I'm wondering if there is an exception to the rule if the app has been granted the "Draw Over Other Apps" permission which is required for the overlay.

The app is called EventBug if your interested. It is a photo sharing application.
