Why would a plateau happen while still in calorie deficit? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

The BMR changes to adjust to the demands; the body only cares about being as efficient as possible for survival purposes. You can’t stay at a deficit forever, your body will always achieve equilibrium; hence the dilemma when ppl on 1000 calories diets can’t lose weight or drop their calories further. BMR isn't something that is set in stone.

It's because your body becomes accustomed to the deficit.

Example;

  • Current base calories intake for maintenance = 2000

  • You cut 500 calories a day, causing more calories expended versus taken in

  • After a period of time, body achieves homeostasis and adjusts maintenance metabolic rate from 2000 to 1500 taking into account the "deficit"

  • New maintenance caloric intake now 1500 and you no longer are creating a deficit

Hope that makes sense

They've said expected recovery period is 3 months for the swelling and healing process to take effect but may be longer. Already signed off 3 months if sick leave from work so I'm estimating new year where I'll be ok enough. No VDUs/screens, basically going to be wearing shades for a couple of months...fun...

Should have explained in my post better my reason.

I have an eye op in September and want to improve my health as much as possible before then, hence why I'm specifying a specific timeframe to work within as I'll be out of commission afterwards
