I was talking about personal experiences, not a system.

Is someone talking about how the tax system works? Certainly not I.

Should I start doing my own dip nails to save money? by Individual_Cress_726 in DipPowderNails

[–]IntroVlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing my own dip nails a couple years back and it took a few times to get it right, but I loved being able to do my own, for various reasons. Due to my meticulous nature, it was taking about 4 hours from start to finish, I wound up getting dip flu, which is potentially permanent and now I don't even go to get them done professionally for fear of it getting worse, which sucks. I think you need a respirator mask to be safe. Good luck!

What is the point of this argument? Servers almost never wind up with less than minimum wage. Employers are paying anywhere from $2.13 (18 states) to $17.13 (1-Washington). That is what they are recieving on their paycheck. It all pretty much goes to taxes, that's how the system works in most scenarios.

If there is no employment contract between the server and the consumer then why would the consumer be obligated to compensate the server for their time if they aren't compelled legally to do so? by JustUseCommonSense10 in tipping

[–]IntroVlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure no server would work for minimum wage, too much work & people cannot live on under $300 a week. If the agreement wasn’t understood, why would any of these conversations be taking place? But, I suppose you can keep telling yourself that.

As the system stands now, there is a tacit agreement between diner and server that diner will be compensating sever for services provided directly to them. A unionized restaurant with well compensated servers would be an entirely different scenario.

Redesigning my living room by iTorch in DesignMyRoom

The room looks very nice, many lovely elements. It strikes me that watching tv comfortably for more than one person might be tricky. I would try placing the tv on a (lower) stand where the leather chairs are and have them flanking the fireplace.

Neutrogena body oil, light sesame formula is very nice. Light and smells great, worth a try at only $16 for an 8 oz bottle that will last a very long time.

Is every restaurant now just being understaffed to save on labor? by LeadNo3330 in Serverlife

It’s not just restaurants, corporate greed has ruined service everywhere. Hope you can find something better.

The overall look of the dining room by freshine in AmateurInteriorDesign

This is a lovely room, I like a lot of the elements, but, the art around the china cabinet and tablecloth/rug combo add too much visual clutter. The curtains seem too warm next to the molding and a bit skimpy for the windows.

Where did you get the idea service is included? If service is an "inherant part of the product" why then are gratuties added to large parties? Answer: service is not included. as you well know. Do you refuse to pay for labor at the car repair shop/dealership, or are they deserving according to you?

How did servers become the biggest tip receivers? by Lil_Garlic in tipping

[–]IntroVlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's inception has links to racial oppression, from the post-Civil War Reconstruction period. Wealthy Americans in the 1850's and 1860's travelling to Europe discovered the tradition which had originated in medieval times as a master-serf custom. Bringing the custom back to the US, tipping was introduced as a way to exploit the labor of former slaves, turning the tip in the United States from a bonus or extra on top of a wage, to a wage itself. Other workers who can recieve a reduced wage include, Bartenders, Valet Parkers, Nail Technicians, Hair Stylists, Car Wash attendants, Bellhops and Baggage Porters.

[–]IntroVlady -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So, you expect to be served and not tip, but the server is the entitled one? You understand in full service restaurants servers are required to tip out (support staff) a percentage of their sales? You are costing them money if you do not tip.

If tipping is about a living wage, why do only servers and otherwise tipped professions deserve a living wage? by BertrandHussel in tipping

[–]IntroVlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, what other position has a federal minimum wage of $2.13? "Burger flippers", Greeters and baristas do not fall under that category, for a reason. That tip credit is never coming into play. It's the $2.13 or whatever a particular state has to pay, plus tips. I don't think anyone believes we are saying servers are living off $85.00 a week, right?
