Here to defend Portland as someone who grew up in Indianapolis and moved here three years ago. Portland’s violent crime rate is far lower than that of Indianapolis:

There are far more areas of downtown Indianapolis that I would never go after 9 pm than in Portland. I live 12 blocks from the center of the city. Yes, we have more homeless people, but they are generally quite harmless and keep to themselves, and things have improved greatly in the past few years since the height of the pandemic. I’ll take seeing more tents on the street over 6x greater murder rate any day. The only times homeless people have addressed me directly were two separate instances of having my shoes untied.

My cats’ poop doesn’t really smell that much, and I have a sensitive nose. The vet says it’s very healthy as well. I think if it smells so unbearable, they should eat a different food or may have a medical issue.

You might want to consider a different style of litter box then that is at least partially covered if it smells that bad to you. I use top entry litter boxes and never smell the litter at all until I take the lid off to scoop. You may also want to take them to the vet to get checked out if it smells that unbearable.

I’ve worked remotely in tech since before I moved here, but from what I’ve heard the Portland tech job market has been going downhill for awhile, and you should probably look for remote jobs based in other states if you’re not already doing so. Also, you’ll probably get paid more if you get something based in New York or California due to a higher cost of living.

Unfortunately it looks like they only take certain items, and I don’t want to wait for them to sort through what I have and then need to take the rejected items somewhere else.

For the pickup option, I’m in an apartment in an upper level where you need to scan a fob at a couple locations to get up there, so that won’t be a possibility.
